Father and son banquet ° The 1st Londesboro Cub and Scout groups held their annual father, and son banquet on Thursday night, April 8. Jack Lee, chairman of the Scout and Cub committee was chairman for the evening program. Scout Howard Hoggarth and Scout David Plant presented the colours and Scout Paul Middigaal offered a toast to the Queen and the group sang "God save the Queen." Cub Dennis Schneider said grace and everyone enjoyed a turkey dinner prepared by the United Church women and mothers of the boys. Cub Robert Wilts thanked the ladies for the lovely meal and Mrs. Reg Lawson, president of the UCW responded. Cub Kevin Radford proposed a toast to the church, the sponsoring body for the Cubs and Scouts. the n net slang with a Scouts,. Following the dinner program, Scoutmaster Howard Cartwright . showed his movies of his recent trip to Alaska, which was enjoyed by old and young alike. WI card party There were nine tables in play at the WI' card party on Friday night April 9. Winners were: ladies' high, June Fothergill:;, lone hands, Margaret Taylor; low, Jewel Cowan; men's high, Hazel Reid; lone hand, Ed Brooks and low, Mary Robinson. The final card party for this season will be in two weeks. April 23. There will be some draws at phis one. In charge will be Addie Hunking. Alice Buchanan, Genevieve Allen and Jessie Tebbutt. Personals Miss Donna Hunking was admitted to Clinton Hospital on Aprils to have surgery. Mrs. Ena ` Howatt had surgery Friday, April 9 in the Clinton Public Hospital. Mr. Norman Alexander attended the Drainage Commissioners course at the University of Guelph this past week. The April Cheerio meeting was cancelled, but will be held in May at the home of Jewel Cowan, Group 4. Remember the historical meeting will be held in the hall on Thursday, April 15 (tonight) at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Robbie and Jennifer Lawrie, Kitchener spend the weekend with their grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Caldwell went to Toronto on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crawford of Kelowna, BC returned home that day after spending a month's visit with the Cal4wells, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Crawford, Blyth. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter, Colleen and Mrs. Jack Armstrong visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hilborn, Thedford. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shob- brook spent the weekend in Woodstock with their daughter Mr. and 'Mrs. Ross Millson and family, celebrating Sheryl's birthday and attending College Avenue United Church, Sunday, where Sheryl and David are members of the confirmation class. Sunday callers with Mrs. Jessie Jones were her family, Mr, and Mrs. Ken Moore, Egmondville; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jones and Mrs. Jim Snell. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jones were supper guests. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shob- brook met the plane at London, airport, Monday morning when their gran - daughter, Joan Garrow, returned home from spending 16 days visiting her grand- father, aunts, uncles and cousins in BC and Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Radford, London spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Thompson. Robbie and Jennifer Lawrie returned to Kitchener with them. Hansel (fillchael. Sunday April 11, was also daffodil Sunday and it reminds us of the great work of the Canadian Cancer Society which this week solicits our help. Friday, April 16, Good Friday, there will be a one hour service based on the Seven Words from the -Cross at3p.m. On Easter Sunday there will he Holy Communion at 11:15. ACW The April meeting of the ACW was held in the church, with a good attendance. Lois Wise opened the meeting by welcoming everyone, and reading a poem. Everyone joined in singing a hymn. Lois Wise read the invocation, and the meditation, while Marion Smith read the scripture and the Litany with members responding. Blanche Deeves welcomed Mrs. Jean Lobb to the meeting. Mrs. Lobb explained pictures of churches, schools and houses where the ancestors of many of Goderich Township residents came from, in Tipperary Ireland. In one church, - the name of Deeves was on a war plaque and one original Deeves house had fallen down. Much was mentioned of the Webster family, as this was the purpose of Mrs. Lobb's trip, to trace back her own family. The evening was enjoyed by all and concluded with a lunch of bread and cheese, ' B :Blanche beeves including an Irish loaf. Mrs. Lobb had given the recipe to Blanche Deeves for "Irish Brack Loaf". I promised to print the recipe so here you are and good tuck. Everyone got a taste of it and said how good it was. You take one Ib. of mixed peel, one cup of brown sugar and soak this into 11,,E pups of cold tea over night. Next morning add one egg,, four cups flour, one teaspoon baking powder, t teaspoon soda, salt. Bake one hour or longer at 325, The evening was closed in . prayer by Lois Wise. Sarah Storey thanked Mrs. Lobb and presented her with a gift. Personals Mr. Charlie Cooper of Midland has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Dutot. We are sorry to hear Faye Stryher of the 14thh,has been confined to her home for the past two weeks. Get well wishes to Faye. Mrs. Fred Middleton spent a week with L her daughter, Kay Campbell doing a little quilting. We are sorry to hear Mrs. Bert Rowden has been in the hospital. We in the com- munity wish her well. Congratulations to Bruce and Diane Miller on the arrival of their daughter last Sunday. Our sincere good wishes to Delores and Alvin Dutot on their 38th wedding an- niversary, April 9. A gathering of friends and relatives had a dinner at the White Carnation. Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Russell of Markdale held a dinner and bridal shower for Pattie Patterson and Nathan Smith who will be married May 8. There were over 30 guests, all relatives on the Patterson side of the family. Those attending from Clinton were the bride's mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J. Patterson, Debbie and Kathie Patterson, Pattie and Nathan, Al Willie of Seaforth and other guests from Toronto, Shallow Lake and Owen Sound. Mrs. Douglas Smith opened her home to a bridal shower for Pattie Patterson on Sunday afternoon, with her living room decorated in coloured streamers and bells. Corsages were pinned. on the bride and groom's mothers, We all helped Pattie pack her suitcase in the form ofagame. Winners of the games were Helen Casterinas, Mary Smith. Lois Smith and Elaine Kilgour. Mrs. Douglas Smith read the address to Pattie the bride, and then opened her gifts, thanked everyone and enjoyed a delicious lunch which was served by the hostess with Barb Kilgour, and Lois Smith as helpers. So I hear Marion Smith is going to be busy again this year making her Easter Bunny Cake for the Holmesville School. The draw will take place Thur- sday and proceeds will go to the Bunny Bundle on CFPL. Charlie Cooper and Delores spent an afternoon at the Deeves, enjoying a few games of crokinole. I won't say who won but it was fun. I'm sure everyone was glad to see Charlie again as we went about visiting in the area. I would like to wish everyone a very Joyous Easter.
