Clinton News-Record, 1975-06-19, Page 26Lucky'is the spring and summer bride of°1971,
for she has picked a season in which anything
goes, fashion -wise.
Everything from peasant dresses to short shorts
will be worn by brides this season, much to the
demise of most of their mothers,
Bridal clothing designers, realizing that the
girls of this new decade are not content to let
"mama" select the wedding dress, have de-
signed boutique lines specifically to cater to
the independent bride.

NOT THAT mothers are wrong . they often-
times aren't, but the designers have recently
iearried to cater to the bride rather than the
bride's mother.
The boutique lines from several well-known
collections are generally lower in price than the
standard designs, but they are also more
fashionable. Some say that wedding. dresses
never go - out of style: But because one wears
it only once, ,that would seem to be an -all-
r.ight situation:
Colors have become an' irnpo'rtant look in the
bridal gown industry. The palest pinks,
lavenders and yellows are popular colors which
rieep out from behind layers of organza.
Embroidered fabrics have become popular, but •
•• mainly in bridesmaids' dresses.
THE MOST popular headpiece for spring and
Summer appears to be the kerchief tied beneath •
the chin in a beguiling and romantic manner.
Real flower headdresses are regaining their
popularity also.
With the peasant or ethnic influence a strong
one.in theTashion industry, it stands to reason
that it has penetrated the bridal fashion busi-
ness also.
The weskits, tiers and pinafores for brides are
all a part of that movement. Also, cotton ma-
terials such as sheer voile and eyelet laces
have been used in gowns in most of the major
bridal lines.
More daring brides may want to show up at
their on -the -beach weddings in a white crepe
jumpsuit or tiny embroidered short shorts
and.•bare feet. Have no fear, traditionalists, the
traditional bridal apparel is still selling well.

Gone forever is the era of a one -day only attendant's
goWn. Soft little jackets, capes and stoles give way after the
Ceremony to body conscious dresses with revealing halter
and shoulder strap styling. All of fashion's most significant
trends are conspicuously present. including swirling St.

styles.
