iDeath of 1\i}'as Mary MaeLeann.—In
the early hors .of August; 15th, on
her,' seveut eighth ' birthday, there
entered into her rest, at Winghuiu
hospital, Miss Mary MacLean, a highly
esteemed resident. .She .suffered a
stroke two months ego' and although
some improvement vt;as noted at first
she gradually weakened until the end.
Miss MacLean was one of the daugh-
ters of a family of eight born tothe
late Mr. and Mrs. Alex. MacLean, the
very earliest pioneers on concession
1.2, "The isle of Skye." This MacLean
home throughout the y.ears was always
a rendezvous for good fellowship and
kin ness
far andwide for d

and hospitality. The influence of these
early pioneers and their successors is -
still manifest in the thrift and self
respect of the community. Of the
family born in this home only tWo
sons survive, Donald, of Luckuow, and
Dune. a, of California. A. sister, Sara.
passed away two years ago and four
brothers, Charles, David,. Ale. and
Dr. John, predeceased her some years
ago. Miss MacLean in her young
womanhood spent several years in
Braimdon arid Chicago, returning home
to minister to the comforts of her
parents in their declining .years. She
was gifte4 intellectually, read wisely,
and was posted in the matters of the
day. In the community, in Red Cross
work, her efforts were of the highest
and; she accomplished much. She had
a' deep reverence for# the thing of: God;
her love of God's work, sof God's day.
and of God's house and deep-. interest
in the missionary work: tif..the church,
was mflrked in hey life. She was a
member of the Ashfield Presbyterian
church and' a life meniber of the W.
M.S. Two years ago, wit% her brother
Donald. she moved to Lucknow,- •where
she enjoyed the less ,strenuous- lrfe
of the village. The funeral Service
on Monday' was conducted in the Pres-
byterian church by the pastor, Rev. C.

formerly of Dunlop, who passed away'
