LIONS TAKE LEAGUE -
GAME AT RIPLEY
On Wednesday evening Goderich
Lions traielled to Ripley to play their
first League game with the Junior
team of that town, and came back on
the winning side with a score of 15-2.
Evans took care, of the pitching duties,
with -the reliable Scott as 11i, battery
mate, and Jerry Ginn" takini "Lung
John's" Place on first. The Lions
found McDonald, the starting pitcher
for Ripley, to their liking, 'and con-
tinued the onslaught ut1 George Chin,
who relieved him iu the third.` Harri-
son took -up the pitching duties for
Ripley in the seventh and held the
Lions clobbers scoreless from then on.
'Chin pitched nice ball, but his support"
was rather shaky, errors coming at
critical times. Ripley are a stronger
team "than the score •indicates, and
.they iiro•inise .to reverse the Verdict
when -- they meet the Lions here on
Monday next at Agricultural Park.

Game
Goderich Lions Juniors after a mid-
season slump On the road re-estab-
lished themselves in the hearts of their
followers on Monday evening when
they flattened the Louzon Flyers by
a - score of 11-4.- The boys were good
value- for their Win, with- only two
errors chalked up against them, and
with the exception of these two slips
pl used good baseball and gave Ainslie
excellent sutlport. "Windy" was in
rare form and had the fruit merchant's
sluggers baffled with au assortment
'of fast ones and. the back -braking
curve which sent fourteen of them
back to the bench by the strike -out
route. Gessler Young, for the Flyers,
also pitched ggood ball, nine -of the
Lions going down swinging, but his
support was not too good, live errors
coming at disastrous times. The Fl ers' Joe Moody

• ' Features of the Lions -Flyers game
were the good fielding exhibitions by

fob• the Juniors,. the last-named accept-
ing five difficult chances without an
error; while for - the Flyers Bud
Wr,rthy did. 'some nice work around -
first, and the Flyers' outfield was good.
-As usual, "Cock" Worsell prayed a
tough man at bat for the Lions,. but
the Williams defence against. him is
proving troublesome for the Lions'.
backstop, although he did manage Co,
pull one hit to left field.
A pleasing feature of the last two
games has been the hitting of .lack
Needham, who is now witnaging to get
his batting eye on the ball, and, will
be helpful in the playoffs:
'Je•rry Gina, with his speed on the
bases and..his ability to lay down bunts,
is also a valuable man to have around,
and he can. do a fair job around first
base when ('aptain Evans is in the
pitcher's box.
One of the most interested -men at
the game on Wednesday was the
,fb)rmer 'fn:Mager, Eddie Jessop, who
looks with wistful. eyes after the,, team
when he is left.at home. Eddie, how-
ever, promises to do the scoring for
the boys in the . playoffs.
The fans are clamoring for a- play-
off series between the Lions and the
Louzon Flyers, and although the
latter have dropped three out of ,their
four engagements with Con Baechler'e
speed boys, they are still unconvinced
that they are not the better team.
