The president, Mrs. E. • A. Videan,
congratulated _nil who helped in the
membership drive which resulted in
a grand total of 100 members.
The secretary Mrs. W. heed; reported
that four special speakers had been
heard; Mrs. Gardiner on- "Nutrition
and Meal Planning;" Mrs. Alan Moore
of Stratford on "Co-operation in Edn
cation ;" Rev. Beverley Farr on "Christ-
ian Homes," and Mrs. Colin Campbell,
president of the Ontario Home and
School Federation, who was guest of
honor at the birthday party, "Fears
bf Children" was, a topic presented and
discussed by the members, and a skit,
"Mealtime Prbblems," followed by dis-
cussion, was the main topic at another
meeting. In December a joint ,meeting'.
was held with Central School, pupils,
of the two schools providing the pro-
gram under the direction Qf Mrs. Mc-
Dougall. An interesting program of
films• was provided by Mr. R. Henry,
and at each meeting a fine program of
music was provided. > ,
Mrs. G. Bowra reviewed the work
of the war services committee which
is now to - be discontinued. It was
formed when the Ontario Federation
sponsored "Layettes for Britain." Six
complete layettes were donated at that

to the "Aid to Russia Fund," "Save
the Children Fund,". arld• 'the Navy
League.. °Donations to the Red Shield
included 19 shelter' shtaWIs, 9' shoulder-
shawls, 5 crib quilts, and approxim-
ately '500 articles -of` clothing. Mrs.
Bowra, tendered tier thanks to the
members for. their splendid co-opere
ation in all these undertakings.
The social convener, Mrs. Staniforth,
Was congratulated on the line work
done by the members of her' committee,
and Mrs. Overholt, review secretary;
expressed the wish that more of the
members would subscribe to the Home
and School magazine.
The press secertary, Mrs. A. Taylor,
paid tribute to the local paper for .the
splendid publicity given to all Home
and- ,School meetings.
-.The treasurer, Mrs. R. Wilson, -re-
ported' a balance on hand of $170.57,
and moved 'that $25 be donated in
answer to the appeal from the "Save
the Children Fund." This wily provide
food •arnd medical care for 'a child
for six months; and the -motion ' was
carried .-unanimously.
When the` meeting was over, ,a num-
ber of members expressed a wish to
do,,,more, and care for two children.
The matter was referred to the.new

for the different schools in the area,

cash $250 of second Victory loan bonds.

A friend at Bottineau, North Dakota,
sends an obituary notice of the late
Dr. A. R. MacKay published in the
local paper there,' with an accompany-
ing 'note stating that Alex. MacKay
attended Goderich High School in 1889
when Dr. Strang was principal. .The
obituary is as follows :
Dr. A. R. - MacKay of Bottineau
passed away April 20, 1946., He- had
been in poor health for the past two
years, and at the_tiue of his death
had been a patient in a St. Petersburg
( Florida y hospital for five days.
Dr. MacKay was born in Dungannon,.
Ontario, August 24, 1869, where his
father, Dr. James MacKay, practised
medicine for forty years. Dr. MacKay
graduated from Trinity Medical Col-

forced his retirement. The past sev-

of Forestry. He was a Mason and a
member of the Shrine. He served
several terms as • Mayor. He was
actively interested in local, state and
national politics.
• Dr. MacKay was a respected leader
in his profession. He ',yas a member
of his local, state and national medical
societies, as well as a Fellow' of the
American College of.. Surgeons.
He is survived by Mrs.'A. R.' 5a1acKay
of Bottineau, two daughters, Mrs. T. G.
Schmidt of Scottsbluff, Nebraska,' and
Mrs. Kenneth &Ia4vey, of Bottineau,
and by a sou, Dr. A R. MacKay, jr.,
of, Spokane, Wash. 'T'here are eight
grandchildren.. • • •

ing Pigeen Club - was held on Sunday,

Highlights of Easter Convention •
Highlights of the E'iister Home and
School convention were , presented by
Mrs-. A. Taylor, The president. _of-- the ...
Ontario H. and S. Federation was
thrilled to know • that there are now
32,000 home and School members in
Ontario, and urged that each of the
members would do her (or his) part
in the work.
• Some interesting statements were
made -in the conference on religious
education. One minister urged pre-
marital counselling by the ministers,
in the hope that it would help ,to pre-
vent broken homes. Another minister
has a "home and church" group, which
meets once a moot 4both fathers -and.
mothers).• •
Forest Hill Colleglate had talks for
grade 13 near the close of the term,
by a banker, a • minister and two
doctors, and the project was ffost
successful.
Wednesday evening featured a panel
discussion, charred by Mr. McCullough,
headmaster Of- Pickering College, on
the findings of the .Youth Conimission.
Two • girls and three boys took part
in the discussion on employment, re-
creation., education, farm problems and.
religion,, and*ea}ch one presented his or
her viewpoltat in an excellent manner.
They are all interested:in -the church
'and young people's- work, and will make
a valuable contribution to Canada as
the days go- by.
Musical Program
A fine musical' program had been ar-
ranged by Mrs, McDougall, a number
of- the- boys and girls • who took part
in the recent Musical Festival giving
an excellent performance. Those tak-
ing part. were Barbara Ann McVittie,
•Betty Bowra, Ruth Rued, Jack Allan,
Gary Staniforth, )Barbara Schutz, Flor-
ence II•udson and • Carel Ann Sanderson.
• Mrs. McDougall predicted that next
year's festival Would be bigger and
