In accordance with a petition signed by nearly one hundred rate payers, the Reeve has proclaimed Friday, the 7th'of August a civic holiday for Exeter. The Free Masons have arranged with the Grand Trunk Rail- way Co. to have a special train run .to Port Stanley from Exeter on that day, and no doubt neatly every one will embrace this opportunity of taking an outing. There is a change in the method of paying the school grant. Hitherto the Inspector made an order en the township treasurer in favor of the person bearing an order on him from the trustees. Now the Inspector simply leaves a sehedule of the amounts payable to the several sections, and the' trustees give their order in favor of the : teacher" or secre- tary -treasurer on the township treasurer for the respective amounts.
