CANADA CHIEF SOURCE
SEED POTATOES, CUBA
The soil of Cuba makes it impos-
ible to grow potatoes for seed, hence
%seed potatoes must 'be imported.
These enter Cuba between. Septem-
ber: ist and May 30th, when the
r-• planting takes place. Two crops are
itarvested annually, the first being
marketed about the middle of Janu-
ary, and` the second _during April and
1 May. By far -the greater_ ra rtion
of the seed potatoes `imported into
Cuba come from the Maritime Pro-
vinces of Canada, the remainder from
the United States, according to the
Agricultural Depa'r'tment of ,the Can-.
adian National Railways. As regards-
edible or- table potatoes the -Milted.
States is the chief source of supply
outside of the domdstic crop.
