PLOWMEN'S ASSOCIATION
LONDON, ENGLAND.—By now
you hive probaply heard thet Herb
'Jarvis of Agincourt, the champion.
Canadian horse plowman, was the
Winner a tem trophies at the West
of England championship plowing
niatch in Cornwall. They were for
the best overseas competitor and
the bese land in his elas, • and
naturally we, are thrilled about it.
It was a good day for: plowing—
soMe said it Was the best match
Wea.ther in yenrs•Leand the soil cut
like eheese. I would Say most of
the competitors Were "artists" hi
the„art of plowing But unlike
Canadian plewmen they used every
conceivable device to dress up their
work. • After the match we in-
spected the field and it was a beauti-
ful sight to •behold.
In the el,•enSug there waS)a ban-
quet at which Herb was presented
with the silver trophies he hatlewon
while thigh. Leslie,the ehampibn
Canadian tractor plowman, and if
received books e dealing with the

ive received pleques bearing Corn-
wall's coaeof-arms. They will al-
ways- remind us of an Oeea$1011
.when we were entertained royally
and treated lavishly.
But .the 'variety of plowing
methods .that I observed at the
Cornwall Dutch only confirmed my
!opinion that what we need is' a set
of 6tandard rules for international

• People Indifreeerit to War
• To sum up our impressions of the
Continent, the thing that stands out
is the seeming indifference of 'the
people to prospeete of .'another war:
rt would alm!ost, nppear that gen-
erations now, living here are so
used to the. 'idea of war that its
inevitability is taken for granted. I
TO. me • it's like liring at the fodt

long no one knows. . •
The peoples of Denmark, Hol-
land and 13elgierndifferfrom' one •

ofleth.e,m are alike ixi their love of
their coentry. • It'.' 'my persoptil,
belief that the only solution to the.
problems of western Europe is
union urider one government, but
I doubt, in *kthe light of 'this nae
tionalism, if it can be 'accomplished
in the immediate. future, The *sad
part is that these • countrees, by
themselves are comparatively 'weak
and represent easy prey for my
