Dear Editor;
Towards the end of November,
this year Mr. Hodgson called me at
my residence and expressed the dis-
pleasure that his son may he cut
from the Irish line up. I attempted
to explain to him that junior hockey
is a business and that I must rely on
the coaches, who are hired by the
organization, to field the best com-
petitive team they are able to put to-
gether. Mr. Hodgson asked to be
put on the agenda at the next execu-
tive meeting to speak to the mem-
bers on the subject. I agreed and
welcomed his comments. He was
later notified of the meeting on the
12th of December 1994.
I resent the comment Mr. Hodg-
son made that the coaches and the
executive of the Irish are non -

that junior hockey is a business. I
had an occasion to speak to a busi-

the conversation I asked how busi-
ness was. His reply was "Gary, I'm
still here." Well Mr. Hodgson after
twenty-five years the Lucan Irish
are still here. If not for the dedicat-
ed hockey people in the communi-

coaching personnel, who are paid
peanuts on an hourly rate. there
would not be a junior team in Lu -

Hawks still manage to win 5-3
They lost to
Lambeth on Friday
as part of
busy schedule
EXETER It doesn't have to be
pretty - a win is a win.
Sunday night at the South Huron
Recreation Centre, the Exeter
Hawks managed a 5-3 win over the
Mitchell Hawks, lifting their OHA
Junior Development League record
to 13-8-2.,
Coming off of an 8-5 toss to the
visiting Lambeth Lancers on Fri -
Jay, the Hawks carried some prob-
lems from the Toss into the game
with Mitchell.
They had trouble clearing their
own end, and had a tendency to
bunch up and even collide with
each other. But despite that they
got the win and heading into last
night's game with Seaforth, were
one -point away from third place
Belmont in the standings.
Exeter got on the board first Sun-
day night as Ray Cousineau put an
ice level shot past Mitchell goalie
Darcy Ballantyne. It was nearly 2-0
as Nathan Burns rattled one off the
post with three minutes left.
In the second, Nathan Blight
gave the hosts a two -goal cushion
as he let go with a quick shot in
front of Ballantyne. Craig Cor-
rivcau had gone to the penalty box
and coach Dave Revington inserted
Blight into the line with Cousineau
and Farquhar.
It was 3-0 when Shayne Rob-
inson put one over Ballantyne's
shoulder just 17 seconds into an
Exeter powerplay. Midway through
the second, Craig Eidt got the vis-
itors on the. board.
A nice Icad pass from Sean
McCann to Jeff Glavin and it was
4 1 for Exeter before Rob Boville
pulled Mitchell to within two goals.
With 26 seconds left in the game
Craig Quipp scored for the visitors.
Exeter's Steve Farquhar rounded
out the scoring with an empty net -
ter.
Former Exeter Hawks Jon Schie-
del ran into Exeter goalie Chris
Lyndon which caused tempers` to
flare near the end of the game. Cor-
riveau was sent to the box for four
minutes for spearing and when Ja-
mie Cornish joined him, Mitchell
had a two-man advantage for 1:12
which saw Boville score his goal.
Exeter's Chris Kennedy and
Mitchell's Josh Lambourn dropped
their gloves a couple of times dur-
ing the game but both times Ken-
nedy opted to fall to the ice and
cover up.
Friday night in Exeter, the Lanc-
ers snapped the Hawks three -game
winning streak as they won 8-5.

MT. BRYDGES - Trailing 3-1 by the middle of the second period, the
Lucan Irish exploded for seven unanswered goals for a big 8-3 win over
the host Mt. Brydges Bulldogs Saturday night.
The win snapped Lucan's three -game losing streak and moved the team
into a three-way tie for seventh place in the nine team OHA Junior De-
velopment League's west division.
Rookie Dave Jenken had an outstanding game on Saturday as he scored
three goals and set up another. Linemates Christian Cricl with a goal and
two assists and veteran Scott Riddell with three assists also helped in the
win.
Also scoring for the Irish who take on Mitchell tonight at 8:15 p.m.
were Trevor Emms who scored twice and set up another with one goal
each from Greg DePrest and Travis Stinchcombe.
The game got a little rough near the end as there were three fights.
Steve Watson picked up the win in net and he has a new goaltending
partner as the Irish have signed Kynvet Carson who played six games
with the cast division Thamesford Trojans.
Also added to the roster was forward Jim Stanton who will bring mus-
cle to the team.

ty or college. Frankly I don't blame
them. The bottom line is that we
must stay competitive to survive.
If this was just pay and play, as in
minor hockey, the final twenty-five
players who are signed at Christ-
mas time would owe the club over
52.000 dollars each. Any takers?
I know it a tough pill to swallow
when you son or daughter has come
very close to make a very highly
competitive and prestigious team,
only to be let go at the last second.
I can comment on this becauase it
has happened to me twice. My son,
who is junior age, now plays juve-
nile hockey in Exeter, just to keep
playing. It is my choice, sir. to
work for the advancement within.
To promote and build this fine jun-
ior club, and not to complain about
the taste of the grapes.
