I'vk been a really good girl.
For Christmas, I would like it if
you could bring me a guitar and
a yellow shopping cart. And a
sewing machine with real
thread! We will put out some
treats for you and your reindeer.
P.S. Maybe next year I will sit
on your knee at the mall. This
year I was kinda scared.

Busy Christmas schedule
There are several Masses and church services
planned for the week.
By Roberta Walker
GRAND BEND - The Christmas schedule at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church in Grand Bend is as follows: Christmas Confessions:
Wednesday, December 21, from 7 to 8 p.m.: Saturday, December 24 from
11 a.m. to 12 noon. Advent Mass and Video presentation on Wednesday,
December 21 at 9:30 a.in.
A Christmas Candlelight Service and Benediction will be held on De-
cember 22, Thursday at 7:15 p.m., followed by final "Christmas liturgy"
choir practice.
Christmas Masses: Carol service and Christmas music at 7 p.m. to 7:45
p.m. on Saturday, December 24, followed by Christmas Eve Mass at 7:45
p.m. Christmas Day Masses on Sunday, December 25 at 9 a.m. and 11
a.m.
On December 11, the CWL hosted a spe;;ial birthday party for Father
Paul Beck, held after the 11 a.m. Mass with all members of the parish in-
vited to attend. A group of children, led by Josie Britton and Margrit
Brcuer, presented some Christmas carols, and everyone sang "Happy
Birthday" over a huge, delicious Dutch cake. Father Beck was presented
with a gift certificate from the CWL for tickets to the Stratford Festival.
The Catholic Women's League of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church
has continued its busy schedule over the last.two months in Grand Bend.
Business from the November meeting: Over $60 of pennies were col-
lected and rolled to be sent to the Esk-Omi Missions of the North.
President Lia Vandenberk thanked Nancy Stokkermans, who chaired a
very successful parish family Carnival Night, to celebrate the International
Year of the Family. She thanked Toni Vandenberk for making all the
White Ribbons, and Josie Britton, for organizing the distribution of the
White Ribbons in the parish as part of the Campaign Against Pornogra-
phy.
Lia Vandenberk gave a report on the Regional Deanery meeting, which
she and Tillie VanLeeuwen attended. Rita Smits organized the CWL to
provide food for the Alhambra Cash Draw Dance on November 18. The
White Gift Sundays are scheduled for December 4 and 11. Boxes are
placed at the front of the church to collect donations of toys, gifts and non-
perishable food items for needy families in our area.
Toni Vandenberk is in charge of Christmas baskets for the sick and shut
ins of the parish. The next meeting was scheduled for December 6 at 7
p.m. The guest speaker would be Anne Hutchinson, the London radio talk -
show host. Everyone enjoyed bingo games after the meeting.
On December 6, 35 members of the CWL attended the Christmas meet-
ing, with a wine and cheese party. Guest speaker Anne Hutchinson spoke
about Women in the Electronic Media. Although laid off from full-time ra-
dio work, she is filling in at CKSL London for talk -show hosts on holi-
days. She's also working with Carol Campbell on Communications Video
Productions and doing some work at home on her farm in the Lucan area.
Hutchinson began her career 19 years ago in Kingston, and hosted an
open line show on CFPL for 7 1/2 years. To be a good communicator, the
number one rule is to listen. The more you learn, the more you realize how
little you know. The most interesting people are the most interested. She's
had the privilege of meeting Queen Elizabeth and of interviewing four
Prime Ministers. It's not only celebrities that have inspired her, for in-
stance there was a l2 -year-old boy from Philadelphia who started a home
for the homeless.
President Lia Vandenberk chaired the business meeting. Annie Vanden-
bygaart read a reflection on Martha and Mary - the demands of the house-
hold versus taking time for others. Lia reported that over $400 was collect-
ed from donations and sale of pro-life material, for Right to Life of
Lambton. She thanked Dina Kelders for organizing the grocery cash regis-
ter tapes. The CWL got $565 from the IGA and Tenderspot tapes.
Gera Peters read "The Beatitudes of the Housewife". Toni Vandenberk
has prepared about 12 Christmas baskets, also candy boxes and cards to be
sent to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. Roberta Walker reported on the
Christmas Ecumenical service at the United Church which she had attend-
ed earlier that evening. She represented the CWL with two solos, and a
reading she also shared at the meeting, "A Child is Born."
The CWL earned $300 by serving food at the Alhambra, Cash Draw
Dance in November. Vandenberk reminded members of the CWL Region-
al Fun Night in February, the World Day of Prayer in March, and upcom-
ing elections, possibly in March, to have a new slate of officers ready for
the CWL Diocesan Convention in Sarnia at the end of April. Next year is
the 75th anniversary of the CWL in Canada, and each council is encour-
aged to think of a project.
Roberta Walker announced that the Exeter High School Jazz Band and
the Triple Trio choir would be performing December 10 at the Legion as a
fund raiser for the new community centre for local young people. Presi-
dent Lia Vandenberk gave some little gifts and read some special tributes
to her executive, thanking them for all their support.
