`Lunch out'
is enjoyed

pals at their Christmas
meeting.

STAFFA - Eighteen Staffa Wom-
en's Institute members and friends
enjoyed "lunch out" at Doreen
Skinners, Mitchell on Wednesday,
December 14.
They enjoyed a tasty lunch fol-
lowed by carol singing with Marga-
ret Kemp accompanying on the pia-
no. Several members contributed
some Christmas memories and
thoughts to the program.
Minutes were read along with
correspondence. Everyone partici-
pated in a cookie exchange and se-
cretpals were revealed and gifts ex-
changed, then pals were drawn for
the coming year. Everyone signed a
card for Helen Parsons.
The president then reminded the
group of upcoming events in Janu-
ary.
Four people were
confirmed at the ser-
vice.

GRANTON - At St. Thomas'
Anglican church on Sunday, the
Confirmation service for the parish
was held when Courtney McGilliv-
rey and Crystal Davis from St. Pat-
rick's Saintsbury and Ian Paul and
Douglas Chapple from St. Paul's,
Kirkton were confirmed by the Rt.
Rev. C. Robert Townshend.
The Bishop's message was about
making ready to receive Christ and
recognizing that He is always near.
The Rev. Stephen Emery present-
ed the candidates for confirmation
and Robert Parkinson and Paul
Acres were the liturgical assistants.
The lectors were Jean Noon and
Ethel Copeland and Rose Cunning-
ham was the Bishop's Chaplain.
The combined choir from the
three churches sang the anthem "It
is well with my soul'.
Flowers were placed in the
church from the funeral of Mar-
guerite Greenlee.
A time of fellowship followed the
service. Service time is 8:30 p.m.
on Christmas Eve at St. Thomas
Church, Granton.
At Granton United Church Sun-
day, Pastor Normalie Voakes enti-
tled her sermon 'Sing a Song of
Christmas.' Amelia Jameson lit the
candle of Love and the choir sang
'My Dearest Joy' with a solo part
by Kelly Waters.
Stephanie Mills told the meaning
of gifts, Samantha Grant of stock-
ings, Katie Riddell of the star and
Andrew Bryan of mincemeat tarts,
and each of these symbols were put
as decorations on the tree.
The Sunday School children gave
out mincemeat tarts as the congre-
gation left the service.
A Christmas Eve Communion
Service will be held at Wesley
United Church at 7:30 p.m. A
Christmas Day service will be held
at Granton United Church at 10
a.m.
A Christmas Carol service was
held at Granton United Church
Sunday evening, and a time of fel-
lowship followed.

Hayride
Lots of children enjoyed the
Granton Firemen's hayride and vis-
it with Santa and treats following at
the fire hall on Sunday.

The general U.C.W. held their
festive meeting at the United
Church on December 13 with 80
people in attendance for a potluck
smorgasbord supper.
President Marilyn Humphrey
welcomed everyone and Unit one
took charge of the program when
Doreen McRobert discussed the
Christmas rush. Charlene Coos
opened her gift and it was a dove
symbolizing peace, Audrey West -
man's gift was a candle symboliz-
ing light from God, Madeline Har -
die's gift was the Scripture
representing wisdom, and Amelia
Jameson's gift was a circle repre-
senting endless love.
All of these symbols represent
the true meaning of Christmas.
'Joy to the World' was sung as
well as several other parols, accoin-
panied by Pastor Normalie Voakes
on the piano. Marilyn read 'Twas
the Night before Jesus Came' and
led the business.
Each of the units " reviewed up-
coming events and projects: De-
cember 24 is the Carols, Candles
and Communion service in Wesley
U.C. at 7:30 p.m. On December 25,
a Christmas service will be held at
Granton United at 10 a.m.
