Brownie enrolment

Busy month of activities
at Zion church in Crediton
CREDITON - Lighting of the
second Advent candle and presenta-
tion of White Gifts featured Sun-
day's regular morning servce at
Crediton United Church.
Eric Brownlee lit the candle and
led in a responsive reading and the
sermon by Rev. Ed Laksmanis was
"Finding Peace". A large number of
White Gifts were collected and will
be donated to the Huron Christmas
Bureau in Exeter.
The church auditorium has been
tastefully decorated for the Christ-
mas season thanks to the efforts of
JoAnne and Pam Pickering and
Barb Ratz.
The annual Christmas dinner
meeting of the U.C.W will be held
Thursday night, December 8 at 6
p.m. Each member will be allowed
to bring a guest and the session and
choir members are also invited.
Jean Neil is in charge of the pro-
gram.
The annual Sunday School
Christmas program will be present-
ed at 10 a.m. on Sunday, December
18 with a pot luck lunch. Assisting
superintendent Harry Schroeder in
producing this special program are
Dianne Finkbeiner and Donald
Finkbeiner.
The C.G.I.T. Vesper service is
scheduled for Friday, December 23
at 7.30 p.m. This is to be followed
by carol singing on a hay wagon
travelling throughout the village.
The Christmas Eve Candlelight and
Communion service will be held
on December 24 at 8.30 p.m. The
regular service on Christmas Day
will be cancelled.
In hospital from the Crediton
area are Gerald Smith at University
Hospital in London and Georgie
Sims at South Huron in Exeter.
The senior choir will practice to-
night, Wednesday at 8 p.m. and
C.G.I.T. members will be practic-
ing each Tuesday after school.
Christmas concert
Stephen Central Public School
has planned another Christmas con-
cert this year. The concert is sched-
uled for Wednesday, December 14.
Christmas drama
presented at service
White gifts were donated to the Christmas Bu-
reau.

THAMES ROAD - Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of the White Gift ser-
vice on Sunday morning. The Responsive Reading was taken from the ser-
vice book "Praise Awakes the Dawn" Psalm 57.
Ryan Parker lit the third Advent candle and his mother Judith Parker and
sister Megan read about the Advent candle. The children's hymn "Seek Ye
First the Kingdom of God". Rev. Allsop told the children a story about
"Love and Christmas" Robyn Etherington read from the Gospel of Mat-
thew 11:1-6.
The congregation sang a new hymn "What Does Christmas Mean to
You?"
The Sunday School members presented a drama "What does Christmas
Mean to You?" Laura Miller, Brenda Miner, Vanessa Bray, Ryan Parker,
and Robyn Etherington all gave readings.
Ron Bilcke portrayed Joseph, Mary Lou Bilcke was Mary and their son
Ty was the baby Jesus.
The rest of the children were angels, shepherd and wise men. Maggie
Miller and Kristy Bray received the offering.
Cans of food and money in white envelopes for the Christmas Bureau
were placed under the decorated Christmas tree. The auditorium was deco-
rated with greenery, red bows and poinsettias, candelabra with red candles
and the advent wreath.
The closing hymn "Gentle Mary Laid Her Child" was sung.
Coming events
Each week a different church in the Exeter area has been asked to host a
time of silent and individual prayer. Thames Road has been selected as the
place of prayer on Friday, December 9 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Rev. Jim
Allsop will give a few words of welcome at 9:30 a.m. All ministers and
lay people are welcome and people pray for their churches, their commu-
nities, their nation, their families and their world. Most of the time is spent
in silent prayer.
On Wednesday, December 7 tfie Session will meet at 7 p.m. and the Of-
ficial Board at 8 p.m. at Thames Road.
On Thursday, December 8 at 7 p.m. the Messenger Christmas meeting
will be held at Elimville church.
Sunday, December 18 is Christmas Sunday services in both churches.
On Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. is Thames Road Sunday
School concert.
On December 24 a joint Christmas Eve church service and communion
will be held at Elimville at 7:00 p.m.
On Sunday, December 25 at 10 a.m. there will be a joint Christmas Sun-
day morning church service at Thames Road.
Personals
Sympathy of the community is extended to Jim McCarter, Ken and
Joyce McCarter, Laverne and Marion McCarter and Gordon and Margaret
McCarter and families in the passing of the late Eva McCarter.
Quite a number of people from this community called at the Hopper
Hockey Funeral Home, Exeter to pay their respect to the late Elizabeth
Lamport, and also attended her funeral on Sunday. Sympathy is extended
to her husband Bill, Marion and Don McCurdy and family and Glen and
Betty Ann Lamport and family.
Barbara Miller of Toronto spent the weekend at her home here.

SAINTSBURY - Sunday, December 4, Advent II,
St. Patrick's Morning Prayer service was held at 8:30
a.m. The church was decorated for the Advent season.
Rev. Stephen Emery, for his children's focus, talked
about "Preparation" and getting ready for Christmas.
The Scripture reading was about John the Baptist tell-
ing how to prepare for Christ's coming and how to turn
wrongs into rights. Starr Davis assisted with the light-
ing of the first Advent candle for Hope, and Katie -
Scarlett MacGillivray lit the second Advent candle for
Peace.
Sunday, December 11, Advent III, St. Patrick's Sun-
day School will hold their Christmas Pageant and the
Holy Communion service in the Parish Hall at 11:00
a.m. followed by lunch and a visit from Santa.
Scripture readings are to be Philippians 4:4-7, Isaiah
12:2-6, The Holy Gospel 12:2-6.

Wednesday, December 7, St. Patrick's A.C.W. will
hold their Christmas meeting with a potluck lunch at
12:30 at the Davis's. Members are reminded to bring
their Christmas gifts or items for Daily Bread which
are to be delivered next week.
Personals
Mary Davis was a recent dinner guest with the Jef-
frey Young family and Wednesday a lunch guest with
the Davis's, also calling on Marguerite Greenlee.
Thursday Hugh and Hazel Davis visited the Peebles
funeral Home in Atwood for Jack Stone, husband of
cousin, the former Maxine Godbolt. Sincere sympathy
to the Stone family from all the Hodgins relatives from
Saintsbury and area.
Matthew and Mitchell Iredale were Saturday over-
night visitors with grandparents Ron and Margaret Car-
roll. On Sunday, the Carrolls attended the Christmas
dinner at the Exeter Villa with mother Eileen Carroll.
Jennette and Sarah Walker were weekend visitors
with the Michael Davis family.
Hugh and Hazel Davis attended the Middlesex Road
Superintendents Association Christmas dinner and
dance at Wonderland Gardens on Friday evening.
Prayers for good health go out to Marguerite Green-
lee from all her relatives and friends from St. Patrick's.
