Queensway Open House
Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall held its annual Christmas Open House on Sunday
and among the guests were four month-old Justine Litton who brought grandma Darlene
Schenk along to visiting Justine's great-grandfather, Tom Desjardine.
Zurich Diners celebrate five years
ZURICH - Zurich Senior Diners celebrated their
fifth anniversary November 30 with 70 diners attend-
ing. A beef dinner and anniversary cake was enjoyed
by all. Green, yellow and white was the colour theme
of the Community Centre. Frieda Moore was the 50/50
winner.
Gertie Fleischauer was asked to speak to the diners
on behalf of Zurich Town Council, wishing them con-
tinued success with their program. Jean Peisker, man-
ager of Home Support, spoke and wished the diners
continued success. •
A poem 'When Father Shook the Stove' was read by
Thea Vandenboom. Gertie Fleischauer and Marilee
Ayotte presented Tammy Antaya with gifts for her
baby Michael. She thanked everyone in her witty man-
ner for the gifts and informed the diners she will be
back on duty in April.
Faye Skinner presented the Advisory Committee
with pink carnations. 'Happy Birthday' was sung for
diners having birthdays in November. Entertainment
was provided by Lloyd Otterbein and Claire Masse.
Zurich Golden Agers will meet for their Christmas
program and dinner Monday, December 12 at 4:00 at
the Dominion Hotel.
General meeting well attended
BENMILLER - Fifty tourism -
related business people attended
the first annual general meeting of
the Huron Tourism Association on
November 3, at the Benmiller Inn.
Everyone was welcomed by,.Ben-
miller Innkeeper Kathy Nichol and
the association's President Richard
Fitoussi who then introduced the
evenings guest speaker, Rob Mer -
win from the Ministry of Culture,
Tourism and Recreation. Merwin
gave a speech on tourism partner-
ships and what is important to de-
velop and sustain tourism within
Huron County. His presentation
focused on what he called his
"Top Ten Critical Success Fac-
tors".
Micheline Notte, Treasurer, re-
ported on a successful first year.
The association had some very
good events during the year: the
Brochure Swap; Familiarization
(Fam) Tour; Car Rally and Group
Tour Manual, all which covered
their costs and then some. Initial
start-up costs (letterhead, enve-
lopes, insurance etc.) were aided
by a Community Futures Grant.

John McHenry gave a summary
of accomplishments that the Huron
Tourism Association had achieved
throughout the year. These include
obtaining a start-up Community
Futures Grant; development of a
corporate logo and slogan; the 5th
Annual Tourism Event and Bro-
chure Swap; the Huron County
Group Tour Manual; a Familiari-
zation (Fain) Tour; the Huron
County Restaurant Menu Book; at-
tendance at the London Free Press
Travel Show; co-operative adver-
tising ventures; host to five Onta-
rio Travel Centre Counsellors
from Toronto, Sarnia and Wind-
sor; a Car Rally and the beginning
of Strategic Planning.
Kathy Nichol, vice presiant
gave a brief outline of action plans
for the 1994/95 season. These in-
clude the sixth annual tourism
event and Brochure Swap a Famil-
iarization (Fam) Tour; the devel-
opment of a Huron County "Pass-
port" and Ambassador Program; a
photo contest; Co-operative adver-
tising and trade shows. Long-range
plans include a special events

poster and a Huron Maple Festival.
Nomination Chairman, John
McHenry, then commenced with
the business of proposing the slate
of nominees for the 1994/95 board
of directors. The nominees were
elected as proposed: President, Ka-
thy Nichol (Benmiller Inn); vice-
president, John McHenry (Huron
Country Playhouse); Treasurer,
Micheline Notte (Micheline's.Jew-
ellery Boutique, Bayfield); Secre-
tary, Mike Pullen (County of Hu-
ron); Brian Treble (North Huron
Com�pmunity Development Area,
Wirigham); Harold Siberry (Bay-
field Cottage Colony and Marina);
Mary Turford (Maple Leaf Motel,
Goderich); Cindy Fisher (County
of Huron); Joan Cassidy (Brent-
wood on the Beach, St. Joseph) and
Vanda McNeil (Heather Holme
Farms).
The mandate of the association is
to develop and target cost-effective
and result -oriented tourism strate-
gies within Huron County. The
next meeting will be held on De-
cember 1 at Brentwood on the
Beach, St._ Joseph Shores I at 7
p.m. Membership is $35.

Children of all ages may drop in for a' visit with
Santa and have their picture taken. The price for a
picture with Santa is $5.00 with the total price
being donated to the Christmas Bureau on behalf of
Exeter Business Association members.
Children will receive a small gift bag from Santa
which includes an activity book and several items
donated by member busine,sses. We had a lot of fun
with the Santa Store last year and with notices
going out to all area schools, the participation rate
should be higher this year.
While visiting the Santa Store, drop your letters off
for Santa.
