LUCAN - They're back!
The Lucn Irish are back on the
winning side of the scoreboard and
last Wednesday night it looked as
though the wheels are finally back
on as they beat the visiting Seaforth
Centenaires 4-3.
While it wasn't one of their best
efforts of the OHA Junior Develop-
ment League season, the Irish
proved they can function as a team
and win hockey games.
Friday, they beat the host Cente-
naires 6-2 while falling 7-3 to Port
Stanley on Saturday.
The past seven games has seen
the Irish put together a 5-2 record
as they moved just two points away
from seventh place.
On Wednesday, the score was
tied with 2:49 left to play in regu-
lation time when rookie Daryl Bo-
shart took a pass and blasted it past
Centenaires goalie Tim Swan.
It was Boshart's fourth goal of the
season and although he is playing
for both the midgets (occasionally)
and the Irish, he is among the
Irish's top scorers.
"I'm not a pretty goal scorer. I
wasn't surprised when the ref (Paul
Petrie) didn't call it a goal right
away," said Boshart.
The shot, set up by centre Greg
DePrest who assisted on three of
the four Lucan goals, hit the post
and then it hit Swan. There was
some question after that whether or
not it went over the goal line or
Swan managed to cover it up.
"I heard it hit the post and I
thought it was in," said Boshart. "I
was too far away to see it myself.
The ref had the best view of it."

Lucan defenseman Wil Giles,

forward during last Wednes-
day's game in Lucan.
Hiwks struggling, crop to fourth place

EXETER - They may only be
three points out of first place, but
things don't look good for the Exet-
er Hawks.
After compiling a decent 9-3-1
record over thcir first 14 games, the
Hawks have lost three and tied
once in their last four starts. Friday
they lost a 5-4 overtime decision to
visiting Belmont Bombers and Sun-
day, in Seaforth, could only man-
age a 5-5 draw with the struggling
Centenaires.
Exeter now has a 9-6-2 record
and are in fourth place in the OHA
Junior Development League's west
division. They will try to get back
on the winning side when they host
the Lucan Irish Friday night at 8:30
p.m.
Against the Bombers, the Hawks
had a slim 1-0 lead after the first
period on Nathan Burns' goal but
slipped behind 3-2 after 40 min-
utes.

back and tie things up in the third
on tallies by Chris Kennedy, Jeff
Glavin and Mark Livermore, Bel-
mont's Wes Goldie scored with
8:21 left to go in regulation time
and then scored the winner in over-
time.
"The guys who are supposed to
be scoring goals for us aren't, that's
number one," said Exeter coach
Dave Revington after Friday night's
game. "Number two, we're just not
playing well as a group."
Exeter has been somewhat at a
disadvantage the past few games as
last year's leading scorer Shayne
Robinson is still recovering from a
rib injury and defenseman Joel
Campbell is out for the season with
a broken ankle.
"We had some wins withotit
those guys earlier on," said Reving-
ton.
It was fairly easy for Revington
two point out vgiat some of his
team's current troubles are, one of
those seems to be lack of move-
ment by the forwards.
All night long the defensemen
had to rush with the puck because,
according to Revington, the for-
wards weren't in the position to re-
ceive a pass.
"Our forwards aren't helping out
at all. Our team speed is a real
question mark, we're getting out -
skated."
Veteran blueliners Greg Dal-
rymple and Jamie Cornish were
forced to lug the puck into the Bel-
mont zone. It seemed to tire Cor-
nish out as he got turned around by
Goldie for the winning goal.
"The wingers aren't geuing open.
They're not available for the outlet.
He's (Dalrymple) taking off and so
is Cornish," said Revington.
While the Hawks didn't open the
scoring until there was about five
minutes left in the first period, both
teams had their chances. Exeter
goalie Darren Kints got his glove
on a shot and Ray Cousincau al-
most scored shorthanded.
The nicest goal of the night came
from the Hawks and it was the tie-
ing goal which brought the Exeter
bench and the crowd to life in a big
way.
Captain Sean McCann, although
not credited with an assist on the
game sheet, stole the puck deep in
the Belmont zone fed it to Kennedy
who slipped it up to Livermore.
While both teams had Tots of
powerplay chances, there were only
three man -advantage goals scored.
Two by the hosts and one by Bel-
mont.
forth's Jason Murray opened the
scoring, Lucan vete,mn blueliner
Keith Robson scored his third of
the year.
In the previous 5-2 win over Sea -
forth, Robson scored a shorthanded
goal.
"Everybody's up and you just get
caught up in it," he said of his scor-
ing.
Last year, the Irish had Ed Van-
kerkoerle who could score from the
blueline, now it ,may be Robson's
tum to step into that role, especially
since this is his fourth year with the
team.
Following Wednesday's win, the
Irish had three wins in four games
after starting the season winless in
11 games. Robson says nervous-
ness might have had something to
do with it.
"A lot of these guys who are new
to the team and new to the league
are seuling down. We've got our
backs against the wall and were
playing good hockey."
While Robson and Boshart
scored for the Irish, those goals
were sandwiched between tallies by
Brad Henderson and George Ste-
phens. The line of DePrest along
with rookies Stephens and Boshart
is working well together.
Wednesday's game was fairly
quite compared to the previous
meeting of the two teams which
saw both Lucan's Bryan Steifel and
Steve Matthews ejected.
"I thought it was going to be a lit-
tle rougher than it was," said Rob-
son of Wednesday's game.
Things got a little physical in the
second period as Seaforth's Chad
Ramer, converted to defence from
his normal forward position, ham-
mered Brent Mills into the boards.
A few moments later, Swan
looked more like a defensive end as
he dipped his shoulder down and
hard into Trevor Emms.
The end of the game got ugly as
Lucan's Travis Stinchcombe was
involved in a fight and will watch a
few games from the stands as he
threw a helmet at a Seaforth player.
