Joint school
announced
STRATHROY - Although plans
werc shelved for a joint high school
between the public and Catholic
sc-hool boards in Huron County
doesn't mean that other school
boards aren't planning similar pro-
jects.
Last Tuesday, the Middlesex
County Board of Education and the
London -Middlesex Catholic Board
of Education announced plans for a
multi -use high school.
The joint school would be the
first high school for the Catholic
board. Right now students in areas
such as Lucan, who wish to attend a
Catholic high school, are bussed to
either Regina Mundi in London or
the newly built St. Thomas Aquinas
which will be at capacity by this '
fall.
The public board sees the venture
as a way of replacing the aging
Strathroy Collegiate. The new
school would be built on property
owned by the Middlesex board at
the north end of Strathroy.
While the two boards are still '
waiting for provincial approval, if
everything goes according to plan, ,
the joint facility should be open to '
an estimated 2,500 students by the
year 2009.
