Zurich Senior
Diners
remember
war veterans
By Gertie Fleischauer
ZURICH - The Zurich Communi-
ty Centre was decorated with pop-
pies and crosses for the Senior Din-
ers Remembrance Day service.
With much of the world still im-
mersed in bloody conflicts, it's
easy to forget those who gave their
lives in defense of their country and
the freedom we all enjoy. This is a
time to remember.
'0 God Our Help in Ages Past'
was sung with Phyllis Deichert as
pianist. Faye Skinner read a poem
'Why Wear a Poppy?
Guest speaker veteran John
McAllister gave an interesting talk
of all veterans who lost their lives
in World War II. Gertie Fleischauer
and Skinner led in the reciting of
'In Flanders Fields'. Fleischauer
read the names of nine local vete-
rans who served overseas in World
War II, two never returned. Gen -y
Kane presented the Memorial
Wreath at the cross, in memory of
all veterans. A moment of silence
was observed. John McAllister
gave a few closing words.
'God Save our Queen' was sung.
