AILSA CRAIG - Mission for
Tomorrow was the theme for the
Ailsa Craig United Church Wom-
en when they met in the Sunday
School room. Wilma McIntosh
was in charge of the program and
used a video on Mission and
World Outreach. The first part of
the video showed how one congre-
gation of the Canterbury -
Richmond Pastoral charge in rural
new Brunswick took Christianity
out of the church into the commu-
nity. They had a strong belief that
part of their ministry was to help
others. They were shown as an
outward looking congregation and
one that encouraged lay people of
all ages.
The second part of the video
showed the congregation of Grace
United Church in Hanover, Onta-
rio. This congregation intentional-
ly looked at its community to iden-
tify the needs and find ways to
respond.
The scripture reading was taken
from Romans Chapter 12 and eve-
ryone read together the Beatitudes.
The hymns Lord Speak to Me and
He's Got the Whole World were
sung. The worship part of the
meeting closed with a benediction
followed by a contest on the Wom-
en of the Bible.
Mary Sutherland, the president
opened the business meeting with
the purpose of the United Church
Women. The quilting group are
working on a quilt. They quilt
Tuesday and Thursday evenings
and would welcome more quitters.
Many members volunteered to
help make Christmas puddings and
Colleen Higgs for Community
Outreach reported that she had
sent cards to the sick and the be-
reaved.
The next meeting of the Ailsa
Craig UCW will be the Christmas
meeting on December 13. At that
time we will meet in the Sunday
School room at 6:30 p.m. for a pot
luck supper.
