Page 32 Times -Advocate, October 26, 1994 T 7\ TTI -IF ATF TJ\ S Your Views Letters to the editor Not all Southcott roads slated for takeover "Hopefully this letter will help your readers better understand the correct interpretation of the negotiations..." Dear Editor: am writing this letter in response to the article on Page 3 of the October 19, 1994 edition of your newspaper entitled "Grand Bend May Take Over Southcott Roads". This heading in and of itself is very misleading. What is proposed to happen is that the Southcott Pines Park Association (S.P.P.A.) would enter into a maintenance agreement with the Village of Grand Bend whereby the S.P.P.A. would be compensated for all eligible maintenance and/or reconstruction of the roads of the Southcott development that rest in (form part of) the Village. The "Southcott" roads within the village represent only 20 percent (plus or minus) of the total South- cott development. The remaining 80 percent (plus or minus) rest in (form part of) the Township/Town of Bosanquct. There is a misconception generated by your arti- cle that all the roads in Southcott Pines are involved in this maintenance agreement with the Village of Grand Bend and this could not be farther from the truth. As stated only 20 percent or 1/5 of the S.P.P.A. roads rest in the Village of Grand Bend. It is unfortunate that this article was written with- out consultation with the other party involved, namely, the S.P.P.A. This may have circumvented the false impressions raised by the distressing selec- tion of prose by the author of the article. Retraction and/or corrections tend only to lead to more confusion. Hopefully this letter will help your readers better understand the correct interpretation of the negotia- tions between S.P.P.A. and the Village of Grand Bend with regard to road maintenance. This maintenance agreement is an attempt by both the S.P.P.A. and the Village of Grand Bend to reach a more equitable financial arrangement given the taxes paid over the past 50 years (since 1946) to the Village. Yours truly, Frank E. Loscombe, President, Southcott Pines Park Association Hats off to rummage sale volunteers. "Were you shoplifting out of habit -or was it that you didn't want to stand and wait in line with the rest of us..." Dear Editor: As a regular shopper at the Spring and Fall Rum- mage Sale, I just wanted to say Thanks to all the volunt^ers that commit so much time working for so many hours to help our local South Huron Hospital. However; all the times that I have ever shopped at the rummage sale I don't think 1 have ever seen so much. Listening to some of the ladies talking to each other I overheard the same comment at differ- ent locations of the sale that there was quite a lot of belongings that should have been placed straight in the garbage bin, hut those great volunteers had to sort through this and try and find items to hang up or put on the table that you and I might buy to take home to our families. Other comments were that maybe because it costs $2.00 a bag to put your gar- bage out why not send it to the rummage sale for free and let them worn- about it. Also while waiting to pay for all my gr bargains, I decided to take one last look aroun , since the lineup was so long; and as I was looking through some more racks you will never guess what I saw - A SHOPLIFTER AT A RUMMAGE SALE - Yes that's right, a middle aged woman putting a white silk blouse in her .purse, I couldn't believe it. (This comment is for her; hoping that she reads my letter - Were you shoplifting out of habit or was it that you couldn't be bothered standing in line with the rest of us to pay for that one lonely item.) As a business owner in Exeter I will never forget your face; however I don't know your name and it's probably just as well. Other suggestions - to the complainers who complain about how long they have to stand to pay for the items they wanted; Please remember these check-out ladies are all great volunteers and without them you would not be able to get in on all these great bargains - such as a garbage bag full of good clothing for $ 10.00. No one should ever complain about not having enough clothes if you could see what is all at the rummage sale. The only thing you never see is that the people that should be there - are not. Thanks again to all the volunteers of the South Huron Hospital Rummage Sale. Yours truly, Cathy Batten Rotate Sunday openings? "...could they not alternate to open every third Sunday?" Dear Editor: Re. grocery stores opening for business on Sun- days. In Exeter are three good grocery stores, as men- tioned in the Times Advocate, that serve Exeter and su:rounding townships. If grocery stores need to be open on the Sabbath - could they not alternate to open every third Sunday'? Staff and employers wouldn't have to work each and every Sunday; and anyone wishing groceries could buy at one of these grocery stores. H.
