Centralia UCW
busy selling pies
Orders are being tak-
en for apple, cherry
and raisin pies.

CENTRALIA - The U.C.W. of
Centralia United Church held their
meeting last week, with Heather
Smith as their guest speaker.
The group is taking orders until
Thursday, October 13 for pies - ap-
ple, cherry or raisin. These are
available for $5.00 each, either
baked or unbaked. Call Audrey
McFalls at 227-4975 to reserve
your pies.
Euchre party
At the euchre party at Heywood's
Restaurant recently, Grace Wurm
and John Hedden were winners in
the High division, while Helen
MacDonald and Harry Noels won
Lone Hands. Florence McRoberts
won the special. The next euchre
party at Heywoods will be held Oc-
tober 17.
United Church
At Centralia United Church on
Sunday, October 9, several people
arrived early to set up a colourful
background of leaves, garden pro-
duce, crops, and flowers for the
church service. The community
thanks those people for giving their
time and talents for everyone to en-
joy.
Many others participated in the
service with readings and music.
God's gifts of creation, creativity,
people, generosity and harvest were
highlighted.
Marjorie Johns on the organ ac-
companied by Judy Mills on the pi-
ano provided music for this special
service. The Brandon family, from
the Toronto area, demonstrated
their talent on the violin. The chil-
dren, Heather, Catherine and Scott,
played beautifully, accompanied by
their mother on the piano. Thanks-
giving bulletin covers for the ser-
vice were created by the teachers
and children of the Sunday School.
On Wednesday, October 12, the
Official Board will meet at 8:00
p.m. at Zion West. Rev. Colin Sto-
ver, the Pastoral Charge supervisor,
will attend this meeting.
Centralia Stewards have selected
Friday, November 18 for the annu-
al turkey supper. The Stewards will
meet Sunday. October 16 follow-
ing the service to plan this event.
On Friday, October 14, Faith
Tabernacle Church will host an
hour of prayer. Everyone from the
community is invited to participate.
Everyone is also invited to sever-
al special services upcoming at
Centralia United Church. Sunday,
October 16 is World Food Day,
and there will be hot dogs, cake
and ice cream following the ser-
vice. Donations from the luncheon
will be sent to Rwandan Relief to
help during their current crisis.
The following Sunday, October
23, Centralia United will celebrate
its anniversary at 11:30 a.m. Heath-
er Smith will perform a monologue
entitled "Woman at the Well".
Women of the church are requested
to bring squares and sandwiches
for the luncheon following the ser-
vice.
Centralia and Zion West church-
es will join in worship with White
Oaks United in London on Sunday,
October 30. This will be a celebra-
tion' to recognize the candidacy of
Heather Smith for ordained minis-
try in the United Church of Cana-
da. A bus has been chartered, and
further details will be available
shortly.
Craft sales
Upcoming craft sales involve
people from the community. On
Saturday, October 22, there will be
a craft and bake sale for Communi-
ty Living at ARC Industries in
Dashwood from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. Lunch will be available. Barb
Passmore will also hold a craft sale
on October 21 (evening) and 22 at
her home on #4 highway south of
Exeter.
Workshops
Parents from the area may be in-
terested in attending P-ofessional
Development Workshops at
McCurdy Public School. These
workshops will be held on
Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to
10:30 a.m., from October 12 to No-
vember 30, and will focus on top-
ics such as street proofing, building
self-esteem, behaviour and disci-
pline. Babysitting will be provided
free of charge, and also coffee and
snacks. For more information, call

Personals
Congratulations to Janet Mathers
and Drew Dalglish who celebrated
the sacrament of marriage at Cen-
tralia United Church on Saturday,
October 8. They had a perfect day
for their wedding.
The Centralia community ex-
tends sympathy to Von Overholt
on the death of her sister, Helen
Aubin of Seaforth.
Busy making crafts
Queensway plans craft and bake sale
HENSALL - Queensway residents are busy preparing for the upcoming
Craft and Bake sale. They spent Friday morning assembling Christmas
bows.
Thursday afternoon, Reverend Miriam DeRivers joined the seniors for
their weekly church service. Playing the keyboard for musical accompani-
ment was Floyd McAsh. Joining them was a guest minister from Tober-
mory, Reverend Don Smith. Later in the evening Queensway welcomed
the Christian Reformed Singers back from summer hiatus. They were in
fine form singing many old hymns. Residents look forward to seeing these
singers next month.
On Thursday, Geri Fashions from London will be at Queensway Nurs-
ing Home from 10 a.m. until 3 p.rn. They have a good selection of dress-
es, blouses, pyjamas, mens' wear as well as a full line of adaptive clothing.
There will also be a fashion show at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon and
everyone is welcome to come and see many of the new fall fashions.
Queensway is still welcoming any donations of craft and baked items
for the upcoming sale. The annual craft and bake sale will be held on
Wednesday October 19 from 2 - 4 p.m. Be sure to get your raffle ticekts
early on the baby quilt and Christmas decorations. All proceeds from the
sale go to benefit resident council and resident activities.
