Panthers battle Lorne Park to a tie
South Huron's field hockey team remain undefeated in league play
TORONTO - It's looking as though South Huron and Lorne Park
will be the premier teams again this year in high school girls field
hockey.
A year ago the South Huron Panthers beat the Spartans to win the
OFSAA crown. Two weekends ago it was Lome Park beating South
Huron 2-1 in overtime to win the Scarborough Tournament.
This past weekend in Toronto, the two outstanding teams battled to a
1-1 draw at the Schoolgirls Tournament in Toronto. There was no
champion determined in this event as it is basically to help in ranking
for OFSAA. 4
"Looking at the tournament, Lorne Park and us were just a bit bet-
ter," said Panthers' coach Jim Workman.
The other three games on the weekend saw South Huron go un-
defeated as they tied Ayr, Scotland 0-0, beat Hamilton's Barton 3-0 and
topped Havcrgal from Toronto 1-0. However. the game with Lorne
Park was very important.
"We scored on them five minutes in and near the end. They scored
on us, it was end-to-end," said Workman.
League play: Last week the Panthers ran their undefeated Huron -
Perth Conference record to 5-0 as they hosted Listowel and Mitchell
last Tuesday in the rain and won 7-0 and 5-0 respectively.
Two days later in St. Marys, the Panthers won a close 2-1 contest
'ver the Saluki.
"It was little less competition from us. Everybody has a bad day,"
said Workman who said his team did not play their best.
League play resumes Thursday afternoon when South Huron will
play host to Stratford Central and Stratford Northwestern.
South Huron's Tonk DeJong, right; works to get the bal.'
against Listowel during Huron -Perth girls field hockey ac-
tion in Exeter last Tuesday.
