Help prepares 2,200 pounds of beans

ZURICH - The beans are cook-
ing, and many volunteer helpers
along with the bean festival com-
mittee and president Doug Erb arc
busy in the festival kitchen all this
week getting things ready for the
bean festival Saturday, August 27.
Entertainment will be held on the
outdoor stage throughout the after-
noon.

Betty Grenicr and daughters from
Hensall along with Alida Rau, Zu-
rich attended a bridal shower in St.
Clair Shores, Michigan on Sunday
for their great-niece Cathy Turner.
Victor and Irene Hartman arc
happy to announce the arrival of
their 15th grandchild, Blare Ship-
way, born August 16, daughter of
Patty" and Bill Shipway of Ailsa
Craig.
One hundred friends and relatives
gathered at the farm of Harry and
Wilma Pcnnings, RR I, Zurich on
Saturday to help them celebrate
their 40th anniv:,rsary. A daughter
Mary -Jane Shea from B.C. is visit-
ing for two weeks; and daughter
Toni and husband Bob Connolly
from Ottawa are visiting for a
week.
Wilma's sistcr Gerrit and Toni
Poets arc on holidays from Hol-
land.
Relatives also came from Dor-
chester, Seaforth, West Lorne, Cot -
tam and the Zurich arca.
The couple's six children and
spouses presented skits and their 14
grandchildren sang songs. A buffet
dinner was held afterwards.
Gordon and Karcn Dcitz from
Mackenzie, B.C. spent two weeks
in Ontario visiting with relatives
and friends. Thcy surprised Karen's
mother, arriving in time to•cele-
brate Veola Wood's 75th birthday
on August 9. They also attended
the funeral of an uncle, Lorne
Klopp on August 12.

Congratulations to George and
Elaine Keller of Dashwood who
celebrated their 25th wedding anni-
versary; and to Shirley and Stu
Pole who celebrated their 36th an-
niversary recently.
Happy birthday wishes to five-
year-old Karen Shanks; Derek Ge-
linas August 20 and one -year-old
Ashley Sweeney on August 25.
I would like to say a big thank
you to daughter Heather and Paul
Klopp and my husband Jerome,
and all our children plus many rela-
tives and friends who came from
various places such as London,
Dorchester, Vanastra, Michigan,
Ottawa, B.C., Toronto, Georgia
and Zurich area who gave me a
surprise 50th birthday party on Sat-
urday at the Klopp farm. It was
great to sec everyone and I re-
ceived so many lovely gifts.
A delicious smorgasbord meal
was -enjoyed by all - complete with
a decorated cake made by Debbie
Overholt.
Neil and Melissa Francis and
Kristin and Aaron Beer from Or-
leans are visiting her parents Mo-
zart and Marie Gelinas Sr. and
family members. Her twin sister
Michele is also here from B.C.

A family reunion was held at the
home of Francis and Cindy De-
nomme on Saturday.
A 75th birthday party was held at
St. Peter's Lutheran Church hall on
August 21 in honour of Wes Hu -
gill.
A re -acquaintance get-together
and dinner was held at the Men-
nonite fellowship hall on Sunday to
say hello to a former pastor Clay-
ton and Amy Kuepfer who were
visiting for the weekend from Vir-
ginia. Thcy attended the wedding
of Peggy and Wayne Smith, nee
Gackstetter, held in Blake on Satur-
day, August 20 at the home of her
parents, Barb and Bob Oesch.
Birdie Finkbeiner is a patient in
Victoria Hospital.
Happy 65th birthday to Doreen
Denomme, and happy 50th birth-
day to Nora Bridle on August 23.
Mark and Sharon Taylor recently
enjoyed a holiday in Texas, and
while there attended the quarter
herse face competition in Fort
Worth. Andrew Geiger from RR 1
Zurich , son of Marilyn and John,
was competing in the competition
and placed third in polebending.
Chuck and Tanya Erb and family
recently enjoyed a one-week vaca-
tion at their cottage on Manitoulin
Island.
John and Leslie Jeffrey and fami-
ly recently spent a week at a cot-
tage south of Kincardine.
Harriet Vanderburgt is acting as
one of the townsfolk singers in the
musical 'Oklahoma' at Huron
Country Playhouse near Grand
Bend, running until September 3.
Grace and Ken Schwartzentruber
from New Hamburg were Sunday
visitors with Ephriam and Elsie
Gingerich and Curtis and Mary
Gingerich. The couple have done
missionary work in Brazil for 32
years.
A bridal shower was held for
Lisa Ward on Sunday. In Septem-
ber she is planning to marry Marty
Merner, son of Bob and Tootle.
Phyllis and Jim Ramer, Jill and
Jana Lynn enjoyed a trip to Alberta
where they attended the wedding
reception at St. Paul for their niece,
Shelley (Horner) and Steven Eisen-
rcich who were married July 23,
1994 at Canmore, Alberta. She is a
daughter of Wayne and Helen.

Grainer, Earl and Marg Horner and
Ross Horner of Zurich, Joanne
McKinley of Willink, Ruth and Ed-
gar Willcrt, Sandra and Rob Wil-
