Zurich gearing up

From clowns to doggers, there's
something for everyone
ZURICH - There's more than just beans and pork chops to be had
at the Zurich Bean Festival.
As the festival enters its 29th year, festival organizers are looking
at making this one of the biggest bean festivals so far, with some-
thing for everyone to enjoy.
The car show is expected to bring in a number of festival goers as
antique and custom car owners and lovers make their way to Zurich
Lor.t.h: weekend.

midway will also be set up
as in past years.
Other festival favorites that can be seen again this year include Dr.
Wallace's Frog Jumping Contest, fire eater Bwana Moto, bingo and
of course there will be plenty of home cooked bean dinners.
The schedule of events begins Friday night with the midway open-
ing and the car show cruise night before a dance and fireworks get
underway around 9 p.m.
The Saturday lineup begins with a pancake breakfast put on by the
Zurich Minor Athletic Association from 7-10 a.m.
And the traditional meals of home cooked beans begin at 11 a.m.,
just an hour before the official opening of the festival and afternoon
of fun.
While people might want to arrive early to catch all the scheduled
activities, they don't have to worry about the food running out.
"We have about 2,200 pounds of beans," said chief cook Donna
Thiel who has been overseeing the preparation of the beans annually
since 1985. She says the festival keeps growing.
"Of course we couldn't do it without the help of all the vol-
unteers," Thiel said. In just the seven days leading up to festival
some 15 volunteers are needed nightly to help cook the beans.
Volunteers will also be on hand both Friday and Saturday to make
sure events run smoothly until the festival wraps up with the annual
Zurich Minor Athletic Association Bean Festival Dance slated to be-
gin Saturday at 9 p.m.
