set for
August 24
The Hensall Horticul-
tural Society is pre-
senting the show.

HENSALL.- The speaker at Hen-
sall United Church on August 28
will be George Cowan. He is well-
known in the area, having supplied
at Hensall United Church a few
years ago. He also taught at the old
public school and later the continu-
ation school in the mid -forties.
The Hensall Parks Board had a
successful barbecue and dance last
Friday night.
A reminder that the Hensall Hor-
ticultural Society will be holding
their Flower Show August 24, at
the United Church.

One thousand days of an accident -free workplace was
celebrated by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Author-
ity last Tuesday. Wayne Shaddock (left) and Wayrie Ford,
the chair of the safety committee, used a cake to mark
the occasion of going 1,000 days without a time -loss
mishap at the ABCA. "I think it's something special,"
said Ford.

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's
Morning Prayer Service was held at
8:30 a.m. Sunday, August 21. Rev.
Stephen Emery's childrens focus
and message was "Jesus said,
When you believe and trust in Me
by taking my body and blood you
will receive eternal life." Prayers
were said for the sick, remembering
Marguerite Greenlee and special
prayers for Starr Davis who will
undergo heart surgery on Friday.
The community's thoughts and
prayers arc with her.
Sunday, August 28, St. Patrick's
will celebrate the Holy Communion
Service at 11:00 a.m. Pentecost 13.
The scripture readings are to be II
Samuel 23:1-7, Ephesians 5:21-33,
Psalm 67, The Holy Gospel John
6:55-69.

and Katie -Scarlett arrived home
this week from a holiday in Michi-
gan and Indiana.

were overnight visitors with cou-
sins Harley, Travis and Starr Davis.
Harley Davis received a plaque at
the Trans Canada Nationals held on
the weekend at Walton Raceway
placing ninth overall in the 60 cc
Pee Wee division. His father Mi-
chael competed in the vintage class.
`Festival of Flowers' held at Kirkton
KIRKTON - The Kirkton Horticultural Society's
"Festival of Flowers" show was held at the Kirkton-
Woodham Community Centre on August 9. The doors
opened for viewing at 7:30 p.m. The program opened
with the singing of 0 Canada.
President Jean Ratcliffe welcomed everyone. Gretch-
en Hazlewood introduced the speakers for the evening,
Mrs. McMillen and her son Dave from McMillen Iris
Gardens. They showed slides of the iris they grow.
They have the largest iris garden in Canada.
The McMillen's donated several iris for prizes for
people wit4 birthdays in August.
Marjorie Johns played some piano selections.
Johns and Doris Batten announced the winners in the
flower show: First with 62 points - Greta. Richards;
Second with 60 points - Ava Murray tied with Elaine
Stephen; Third with 39 points - Jean Ratcliffe; Juniors
under 12 with 5 points - Benjamin Willis -Leake.
The Toronto -Dominion Bank, St. Marys donated
prizes for best gladiolus in show to Doris Elford and
for the best rose in the show to Ava Murray.
Lunch of punch and cookies and a social hour
brought the evening to a close.
