Cheng to
perform with
Orchestra
London
LONDON - World renowned
Canadian pianist, Angela Cheng
will open the 1994/95 season with
her performance in the Master-
works concerts, October 5-6.
Cheng has received acclaim
throughout North American and
abroad for her remarkable tech-
nique, tonal beauty and insightful
musicianship as orchestral soloist,
recitals and chamber musician, and
has, emerged as an important
young artists embarking on a ma-
jor career. A former student of
Sascha Gorodnitzki at the Julliard
School, Cheng has studied exten-
sively with Manahem Pressler at
Indiana University.
A winner of numerous awards,
including the prestigious Montreal
International Piano Competition
and the Arthur Rubinstein Interna-
tional Competition, she has per-
formed with orchestras and in reci-
tal around the world. Past
engagements have included collab-
oration with the symphony orches-
tras of Boston, Montreal, Toronto,
St. Louis, Indianapolis, Utah, Ed-
monton, National Arts Centre, Cal-
gary, Newfoundland, North Caroli-
na and the Israel Philharmonic to
name a few. Recording credits in-
clude Mozart concerti with Mario
Bernardi and the CBC Vancouver
Orchestra and the Clara Schumann
Piano Concerto.
Upcoming performances include
appearances with the Winnipeg,
Utah, Windsor, CBC Vancouver,
Ventura County and Miami Sym-
phonies.
Born in Hong Kong, Cheng re-
sides in Boulder, Colorado, where
she and her husband are faculty
members of the University of Col-
orado.
The all -Beethoven concert pro-
gram will feature Piano Concerto
No. 5 (Emperor) and Symphony
No. 3 (Eroica).
Single tickets for all Master-
works concerts become available
September 17, 1994. Ticket prices
are: $28., $24, $20, $17 (less $2
for students and seniors). Student
rush tickets (with appropriate iden-
tification) are available at the door
at 7 p.m. for $8, subject to availa-
bility.
