Lots to do at local pool
Exeter Pool staff for 1994 are left; Becci Farquhar, Michelle McDonald, Laurie Coolman,
Donise Dundas (supervisor) and Gavin Poole. Absent: Tobi Taylor. Wednesday the local
lifeguards will be holding a "Water Safety Day", beginning at 2 p.m. Next Wednesday,
there will be a night swim from 9-10:30 p.m. This Saturday the Exeter Barracudas swim
team will be hosting a meet.

HENSALL - Residents from the
retirement home held a Breakfast
Club last Monday. They enjoyed
breakfast and reminiscing about
the good old days.
Tuesday afternoon, , Reverend
Henry Annen joined the group for
the weekly church service. A spe-
cial thank you goes to the ladies of
the Hensel) United Church who
heaped with the music, the song
books and with the entire service.
The residents held the first out-
door barbecue on Thursday.
Friday afternoon the baking club
gathered and made mini muffins,
which were a hit with everyone.

annual picnic at Crediton.
After a_ potluck dinner, many
guessing games and relays were
played. The spoon on the end of the
ball of yarn got everyone tangled.

beans.
Isabelle Fletcher was wearing the
most buttons while Dolores Shap -
ton was carrying the most loonies
in her purse.

The Canada Quiz was enjoyed.
Winner of the draw for the quilt
was Betty Knott, RR #2, St. Paul's,
Ontario.
Babysitting
course
offered
EXETER - For the second year
in a row, the Canada Employment
Centre for Students, is offering a
Babysitting Course for those stu-
dents, 12 years of age or older.
The Course "Can You Babysit
Tonight", created by the Institute
for the Prevention of Child Abuse,
gives the novice babysitter a sound
background in the care of children.
The course focuses in on what
types of activities to do with the
children, the different age groups a
babysitter can have, safety rules,
rules to protect the babysitter, chil-
dren with special needs, and gener-
al information and phone numbers
to know when babysitting.
Through a series of group activi-
ties, class room sessions, guest
speakers, and handouts and a final
teat, the students registered will
have the knowledge they need to
start them off on their babysitting
careers.
The course will take place at the
Canada Employment Centre on
July 25, 27 and 28 from 1 p.m. un- •
til 4 p.m. The cost for the course is
$5. Interested students wanting
more information on the course,
contact the Canada Employment
Centro for Students, at 233-1711.

Many cards and flowers given to Oriole Westlake

Church Women were in charge of
the program for the July 11 birth-
day party at Blue Water Rest
Home.
Ruby LaFaive was chairperson
and Barbara Cooper was pianist for
singing favourite hymns such as
"Count Your Blessings", "In the
Garden", and "What a Friend we
Have in Jesus". Shannon Dawn
Cooper tap danced. Birthday gifts
were given to Edna Johnston, Laura
Finkbeiner, Oriole Westlake, Alice
Thiel, Hilda Rader and Ted Stein-
bach, on behalf of the Ladies Aux-
iliary. Fancy squares, ice cream
cones, tea and coffee were served
by the women, assisted by Donna
Klopp of the Auxiliary.
Many friends and relatives at-
tended the "Open House" on July
10 for Oriole Westlake's 90th birth-
day. She received many cards and
flowers.
Present were son Jim from Tren-
ton, Hugh from Saskatoon, Marga-
ret from Sarnia and Leona from
London. Ina Neeb---and Carmel
Sweeney served cake and ice
cream, tea and coffee tin behalf of
the Auxiliary.
Best wishes for a speedy recov-
ery to Ted Steinbach, home from
Exeter hospital. Pastor Larry Stoj-
kovic of Dashwood Lutheran
Church had chapel service on
Thursday and Father Matthias
Wronski said Mass for his parish-
ioners.
Geri Fashions of London held a
fashion show at the Home on July
12. Some resident models were: Es-
ther Makins, Susan Leslie, Orville
Witmer, Ruby Bell, Dorothy Bapty,
Lottie Gascho, Loftus Denomme,.

Lucky draw winners were Ellen
McGonigle, an umbrella; Loftus
Denomme, Emilie Hardie and Dor-
othy Bapty, note pads.
A very pleasant time%was had on
July. 10 when Esther Makins, from
till Blue Water Rest Home at Zu-
r1•ch, entertained her family, 26 in
all, to a dinner Mid at Kate's Sta-
tion, Vanastra. After the meal she
presented each member of her fam-
ily with a gift which the youngest
to the oldest enjoyed. Afterwards,
they gathered at Baird's Cemetery
and held a family chat together.
Maness prevailed somewhat owing
to the doth of Lloyd last January.
