Schedule busy at Stanley
township ball diamond
Fans are urged to come see the action of the
Varna -area baseball teams.

VARNA - The baseball schedule for this week at the Stanley town-
ship ball diamond is as follows: Wednesday, July 20, Midget boys, 9
p.m., Bantam boys, 7 p.m.; Thursday, July 21, Squirt girls at 7 p.m.
and Squirt boys at 7 p.m. on both ball diamonds, Dreamers at 9 p.m.;
Friday, July 22, Pee Wee girls at 7 p.m. and Pee Wee boys at 7 p.m. on
both ball diamonds; Monday, July 25, Squirt boys at 7 p.m. and the
other Squirt boys at 7 p.m. on separate ball diamonds and Hill and Hill
at 9 p.m.; Tuesday, July 26, Mite boys at 7 p.m. and Bantam girls at 9
p.m.; Wednesday, July 27, Agricos at 7 p.m. and Midget boys at 9 p.m.
So if you have nothing to do these warm nights come on down to the
Stanley Township ball diamond and cheer your favourite team on and
cool down and relax.
Saturday evening many in the Varna area attended the wedding re-
ception of Trish and Jon Weber (daughter of Brian and Joan McAsh).
Trish and Jon will be living in Vanastra and are wished the very best.
The combined Varna -Goshen church servieevill be held Sunday,
August 7 at the Pavilion in Varna with a potluck lunch to follow.
Vacation Bible School for Varna-Goshen-Kippen-Brucefield will be
held at Brucefield United Church the week of August 8 to 12 from 9
a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Grants given
to install
erosion
protection
GRAND BEND - The Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Aut ortty
has secured grants from the nnv-
ince to install erosion protection
for one residence at the end of
Sauble Road in Grand Bend. A
study done in 1989 concluded that
the property required some form of
protection because of the ongoing
erosion along the banks of the
Ausable River. If erosion was al-
lowed to continue unchecked, the
building on top of the bank would
be in danger.
Currently the ABCA is complet-
ing a Class Environmental Assess-
ment for the erosion control pro-
ject. Barring any delays in this
process, the ABCA hopes to be
able to finish the design for the
project and call tenders early in
September of this year. If the
schedule goes as planned, work on
the erosion protection project will
be completed this autumn.
The costs for the project in
Grand Bend, will be shared by the
Ministry of Natural Resources, the
ABCA, the Village of Grand
Bend, and the owner of the affect-
ed property.
Winning duet
Canadian Open Country and Western singing contest
winners Ann Reaburn and Eugene Hartman won fourth
place at Simcoe in the duet category. The couple have
been singing together since last summer, though this is
the first contest they have entered. They sang "Devoted
to You" by the Everly Brothers and "Navajo Rug" by ran
Tyson.
