Homecoming on June 29 at 10:30
a.m., call Claire Deichert at 236-

Tickets for the Authentic German
Barbecue on June 30 are advance
only. • Ribs, sausage, pig tails,
hocks, chops and all the trimmings
are the, menu. Committee mem-
bers have tickets.
Practice for the Hay Days '96 Ec-
umenital Choir begins this week
for the large group. Each church
has. been learning the music and
now will meet for practices; June 5,
12, 19 and 26 at the Zurich Men-
nonite Church. The Youth Choir
will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the
Adult Chou will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The next Hay Days '96 steering
pomniltten meeting will be held on
Julie -12.Itt 7:30 p.m. In the Hay
Township Council Chambers.
• Babysitting course
The Zurich and District Optimist
Clubwill be sponsoring a Red
Cross baby-sitting course from
June 2142 in the Public School
gym, running from 3:30 to 7 p.m.
All children ages 12 and over inter-

Girl's Club
The Girl's Club will be having a
Grab -a -Dad Baseball game at the
Zurich Arena ball diamond this Fri-
day, June 7 at 7:00 p.m. After-
wards they are having a wiener
roast. The girl's families are invit-
ed to come out and cheer and join
them for the cookout. Please bring
along some extra hot dogs and
buns.
A retreat is being planned for
June 21-23 at Point Farms Provin-
cial Park near Goderich. The girls
are reminded to bring $10 to the
ball game and give to Ruth Oesch,
along with their permission slip.
Youth Club
The Youth Club of St. Boniface
met in the parish hall last Thursday
to hear Judy Van Aaken talk and
show slides from a trip to Peru.
Swimming lessons
Those interested in taking swim-
ming lessons this summer at Va-
nastra are to register on June 25
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Zurich
arena. Bring your health card num-
ber and folder from last year's pro-
gram.
Foot care clinic
The next foot care clinic will be
held at the Maple Woods Apart-
ments on June 10 from 9 a.m. to
12:00 p.m.

Evangelical Women
The May meeting of Zurich Ev-
angelical Lutheran Women was
held in the fellowship hall on Tues-
day evening. Eileen Herne spoke on
her experiences with children who
have learning difficulties, and how
parents and grandparents can help.
Dessert, tea and coffee were served
by the committee members Karen
Rader, Donna Meurer, Clara Klopp'
and Edith Yungblut. .
I' married at St. Boniface Church on
June 1 by Fr, Wronski. The groom
is the son of Paul and Angela Wat-
son, RR 1, Dashwood. The dinner
and reception were held in Exeter.
Congratulations to a well known
Zurich couple, Clare and Lucille
Masse who celebrated their 50th
golden wedding anniversary on
June 1, beginning with Mass at 3
p.m. at St. Peter's Church, St. Jo-
seph by Fr. Morris, followed by a
dinner and reception at the Zurich
Community Centre. Their original
attendants, Clem Regier, Zurich
and Jean Guillmette, London were
on hand to help them celebrate,
along with their 10 children and
spouses and 43 grandchildren plus
five great-grandchildren.

Hurondela Woolens Institute met
at the hosillie,of Pern Dougall for
their May 'Backwards" meeting.
Twelve members and one visitor
with all their clothing on back-
wards. entered the back door and
tbe meeting started with the ad-
jourolinest. Several familiar
quake were given backwards and
had to be. solved. Bach member
had been previously given a fami-
ly history questionnaire to fill out
and each read their history. Many
families from England and the
eut const and their occupations
were very interesting. Roll call
was answered with a treasured an-
tique and its history.
The motto yesteryear "cus-
toms" -vas given by Margaret
Strang Marilyn Pym, June Stew-
art, Betake Jeffery and Fern
Stewtr'l. Bach member read an ar-
ticle at "London in the thirties",
farm homes, grist mills, general
stares, water witching, barns and
life in general many years ago.
Marilyn Pym gave a reading on
cunning boards on cars and their
uses.
Five members attended the
Blue Jays baseball game in To-
ronto May 25 which opened the
Women's Institute 100th anniver-
sary year. Margaret Harirs presi-
dent of the F.W.1.O. of Ontario
threw the first ball and Margaret
Mdlroy of Walton sang the open-
ing songs. Over two thousand In-
stitute members attended.
Business included plans for the
district picnic at Dashwood on
July 2, articles for the fair display
at Exeter fair, Fern Dougall gave
a report of the district annual at
Bnicefield. Minutes of the last
meeting were read to close the
meeting and dessert was served at
four instead of one -fifteen.

Wilma Pennings recently re-
turned home from Fernie, B.C. af-
ter visiting with daughter Mary -
Jane and Jason and new grand-
daughter Montana Candace Andre-
ola.
A bridal shower was held for
Sara Gingerich on Saturday night at
the Mennonite church. She is tbe
daughter of Don and Sharon Ginge-
rich, RR 2 Zurich and fiancee of
Rob Darling of Toronto. The
couple are planning to be married
on June 15. There was also a family
shower and get-together for Sara on
June 1 at the home of her aunt San-
di and Leo McCarron in New Ham-
burg.
Happy anniversary wishes go to
Gord and Jean Hay who were mar-
ried for 41 years on June 4.
Happy birthday to five-year-old
Nickalas Schilbe who had a birth-
day party on Saturday with some
friends and relatives.
A buck and doe picnic was held
for Pollyanna Soudant and Todd
Becker recently. She is the daugh-
ter of Frank and Libby Soudant,
RR 1 Zurich. The couple are plan-
ning to be married June 15.
A buck and doe was held for Bar-
ry Neeb and Angela Melvin on Sat-
urday in Huron Park. Barry is the
son of Jack and Sylvia Neeb. The
wedding is to be held in July.

night to celebrate Carol's second
39th birthday.
Lee and Rose Regier recently
spent a few days in Windsor visit-
ing with her brother Stance and
Vera Bedard. They also visited Fr.
Gerard Bedard in River Canard.
Janet Regier of Calgary recently
spent a week in Zurich visiting
with her families and relatives. She
celebrated her Grandma Olive
O'Brien's 94th birthday.
Anne Primrose from Millbrae,
California is visiting with her sister
Laurene Corriveau, Zurich, and rel-
atives in Mitchell for a few weeks.

CENTRALIA - A special Sunday
School Anniversary Service was
celebrated at Centralia United
church on June 2.
Mikayla Skinner and Chandra
and Alysa Dougall played piano
pieces. Lindsay, Carrie and Morgan
Powe sang a song. Jane Smith as-
sisted during the service by reading
the scripture and leading a lively
group action song.
Sunday School..certificates were
prtitited,'>Irid' he children led the
Lord's Prayer.
Pastor. Smith's presentation enti-
tled "A Contemporary Witness",
showed how everyone's lives are
interconnected. Using a kite, she
passed yarn throughout the congre-
gation and invited everyone to add
their identifying mark, a bow.
Following the service, everyone
enjoyed a potluck lunch down-
stairs.
Next Sunday, June 9, Sunday
School Anniversary Service will be
a joint worship service at Zion
West.
Upcoming activities
The Zion U.C.W. meeting has
been changed to Wednesday, June
5 at 8:00 p.m. Centralia U.C.W.
will hold their meeting on June 6.
A potluck supper will be held at
Centralia beginning at 6:30 p.m.,

Centralia United Churches will be-
gin on June 30 with a joint worship
service at 10:00 a.m. and will con-
tinue to (and include) September 1.
During August, there will be no
services.
