Unit leader, Norma Cockwill welcomed everyohe and wished all a "Happy New Year". All present answered the roll by paying their dues. Barb Sharpe an- nounced that remodelling had started on the small Sunday School room. This is being done by volun- teer helpers. Jean Mills reported that over 7000 meat pies were made last year with about 500 more on order. The next executive meeting will be January 22 at 7:30 p.m. and the next general meeting will be January 29 at 8 p.m. Devotions were conducted . by Marion Kerslake, Agnes Aunger, Vera Armstrong, Norma Cockwill, Parkette unnecessary "Surely the building can be rented out as office space or a library." Dear Editor: So Council and EBA want to make another park- ette and parking lot at 406 Main St. at a cost of at least $85,000. How much is the parkette beside the PUC used? Aside from the water fountain which is frequently used in summer, that parkette is seldom used. Why build another one? In this time of economic restraint, the town cannot afford to spend money on projects that are not nec- essary. The parkette and parking lot are not money- makers. It is money spent with no return. How is it that people in authority are so quick to spend money when it is not their own? Surely the building can be rented out as office space or a library. The location is prime property. By the way, I congratulate EBA and store owners for the flower boxes on our main street and McNaughton Park is something to be proud of. Our town is one of the prettiest towns around. I don't think we need to spend nearly $100,000 for another parkette by tearing down a perfectly good building. Yours sincerely, Audrey F. Dear Editor: After having read the short front page T.A. article on January lOth, it became clear that it is important to clarify our view about an arrangement we have made with Becker's Milk Store for garbage tag sales. In brief, now we have two locations - the Munici- pal Office and Becker's. This arrangement will give our residents much better service. That is not of concern to the Council at all. We cannot and do not expect to have tags paid for by Becker's be- fore they are sold. To reiterate, Council thanks Beckers for its help in the sale of bag tags and apologizes if the article of January 10th caused Becker's any embarrassment.
