All three South Huron basketball
teams thrash Wingham on the court
WINGHAM - Coming off a
strong 68-44 victory over Central
Huron last Tuesday. the South Hu-
ron senior boys haskethall team ex-
tended their league record to 3-0
u4cating F.E. Madill 58-36
V cdnesday.
Marty Dehruyn recorded 14 re -
hounds and five steals ac-
cumulating a total of 16 points dur-
ing the game. He was followed by
'earnmates Bryan McAllister with
15 points, Joe Haskell with 11 and
Dwayne McNah with nine.
Coach Terry O'Rourke said this
year's squad is one of the hest he
has ever coached and they arc pro-
gressively improving as they get
used to playing with each other.
"We're getting more steals and
turning the hall over a lot less," he
said. "I think we have the potential
to win Huron -Perth if we continue
to play this well."
Size is not on their side but
player Bryan McA'listcr said speed
and shooting arc the team's great-
est strengths.
"We're lacking in height but our
team is quick and we have a lot of
five point shooters that keep the
offense flowing," he said.
The juniors
The South Huron junior has-
kethall team also played Wednes-
day thrashing F.E. Madill 64-38.
Darryl Romphf led the Panther's
scoring drive with 21 points, fol-
lowed by Kris Leppington with 14
and Luke Sims with 13.
An early 13-0 lead held up de-
spite a poor performance early in
the game that saw the junior Pan-
thers miss their mark in the shoot-
ing department.
"We should have hcen sinking
those shots," said Coach George
McEwan adding his team gave up
the hall more than he would Tike to
see.
The junior's greatest strength lies
in their ball carrying skill and this
was put to the test on Dec. 18 when
they played Clinton on their small
court.
"The size of the court was a fac-
tor because our offense requires
running room. We like to spread it
out a bit but their three point line
disappeared at the sidelines," said
McEwan.
However, South Huron adjusted
well and took the game 60-41.
Sharpshooter Bryan McAllister sunk 10 out of 11 at-
tempts off the free-throw line during a SHDHS senior
boys basketball game against F.E. Madill last Wednes-
day.

The Midgets
The South Huron midget hoys
haskethall team kept its undefeated
season intact with a 75-36 win over
Madill Wednesday.
Twelve of the team's 15 players
scored points with Kian Mac-
Dougall notching 15.
They also beat Clinton twice last
Tuesday winning 39-32.in the. first
game and 43-32 in the , second
bringing their record to 4-0.
Marshal Middleton and Jeremy
Parsons were the main point getters
racking up 10 points each.
"We started off sluggish against
Clinton," said Coach Wally Web-
ster noting his team was trailing 14-
7 in the first quarter. "But we tied
it at the half and from that point on
we were ahead of the game."
The South Huron haskethall
teams will not see regular league
action again until Jan. 15 when
they'travcl to Seatorth. The' Juniors-
will participate in a tournament in
Listowel on Jan. 13.
