Local
workers
support
one -day
strike
ST. MARYS - Members of the
Stratford and District Labour
Council picketed at the Dana
Canada (formerly Hayes Dana)
plant last Monday to show sup-
port for the one -day strike in
London. At least 10,000 protest-
ers marched in the city to show
displeasure for the Harris gov-
ernment spending cutbacks, re-
ported the Journal Argus.
The plant operated Monday
with a short-staffed crew when
about 30 workers reported for
work. Normally about 110 work-
ers are scheduled for the day
shift arid 50 for afternoons at the
James Street South Plant.
Still no
leads in
shooting
SEAFORTH - The investiga-
tion of the drive-by shooting of
a Seaforth teen on Feb. 28 of
this year is still at a standstill re-
ported the Huron Expositor.
Julie Bachert, 14, of R.R. 4
Seaforth, was shot in the leg
while sleeping. Bachert had sur-
gery in a London hospital to re-
move the bullet and has recov-
ered.
If anyone has information
about this incident, contact
Goderich OPP at (519)524-8314
or Mount Forrest OPP at 1-800-

Goderich
passes
bylaw
prohibiting
strip clubs
GODERICH - Town council
has banned strip clubs although
its solicitor says the bylaw won't
stand up in court, reported. the
Goderich Signal -Star.
At a recent meeting, the
county's planning department
recommended a zoning bylaw to
prohibit adult entertainment par-
lors in the town despite the fact
the Municipal Act does no allow
a municipality to completely
prohibit such establishments, ac-
cording to a letter from town so-
licitor Dan Murphy.
Authorities
struggle to
survive after
provincial
cuts
SEAFORTH - Conservation
authorities are scrambling to sur-
vive after an ‘8 million reduc-
tion in transter payments re-
vealed in the Harris government
mini -budget of Nov. 29, report-
ed the Huron Expositor.
According to Huron County
Planner Gary Davidson, provin-
cial cuts threaten the existence
of conservation authorities im-
mediately, as it appears the
province will give municipalities
the power to opt out of such lev-
ies.
The province also terminated a
S6 million a year rural beach
clean-up program (CURB), re-
ported the Expositor. The Ausa-
ble Bayfield Conservation Au-
thority was one of the largest
participants in this program to
improve the quality of water in
streams and rural areas on lakes
and beaches such as Bayfield,
Grand Bend. Pinery and Ipper-
wash Provincial Parks.

THAMES ROAD - The Thames
Road-Elimville Sunday School
Christmas concert was held on
Tuesday evening at Elimville
church with a real good atten-
dance.
Cynthia Pym, Elimville Super-
intendent, gave words of wel-
come.
Vanessa Bray and Erin Parker
played "Frosty The Snowman"
and "Jingle Bell Rock" as a piano
duet.
Laura and Sarah Miller played
"Jolly Old St. Nicholas" on the pi-
ano.
Jessica Bray danced to the
theme song from "The Flint -
stones."
The youngest S.S. members
performed an action poem "The
Baby Jesus". Kristy Bray played
"Up on the Housetop" on the pia-
no.
Megan Parker played "The First
Noel" on the piano. Brent Pym
played "Santa Claus is Coming to
Town" on the piano.
Emily Pym played "Waltz of
the Christmas Toys" on the piano.
A skit was performed by
Thames Road Sunday School
"Christmas Around the World"
with Marilyn Vandenbussche at
the piano with the congregation
singing "Joy to the World", "0
Christmas Tree", "Here We
Come A -Carolling", "Gentle
Mary Laid Her Child", "Away In
a Manger" and "Hark! The Her-
ald Angels Sing". Brenna Osgood
played "Jingly Bells" on her re-
corder.
Elimville Sunday School pre-
sented a skit "God's Best Gift"
with piano by Chad Smith.
Megan Parker, Maggie and Sa-
rah Miller clogged to the music of
Cotton Eye Joe. Karen Ethering-
ton, Thames Road Superintendent
gave closing remarks and every-
one sang "Santa Claus is Com-
ing" to town and Santa arrived
and sat on a chair on the platform.
The gifts were taken from un-
derneath a nicely decorated tree
and when the people's names
were called out, each person sat
on Santa's knee. It was well
worth going to the concert and a
lot of credit should be given to
the superintendents, teachers and
Sunday School members.
The Hensall Girl Guides conducted an enrollment recently at the Queensway Nursing Home
in Hensall. The girls adopted a resident as a "buddy" at the nursing home for the evening
and sang Christmas carols to entertain them. They were later joined by Brownies and
Sparks. From back row left are Girl Guides, Michelle Wilder, Lindsay Corbett and Melissa
Genttner. Front row left are, Melissa Wilder, Sarah Stoll and Jane Simmons.
