RAYMOND & McLEAN Barristers & Solicitors 387 Main Street P.O. Box 100 Exeter, Ontario NOM 1S6 Solicitors for the Executors Fall season begins Times -Advocate, September 13, 1905 Page 19 Fall Color and Craft Festival returns to museum GRAND BEND - Community service groups and talented artisans across North Lambton are busy preparing to host over 7000 people to the annual Lambton Fall Color and Craft Festival, October 14 and 15. The central event of the festival is the Christmas Craft Sale sponsored by the Lambton Heritage Museum, which offers country decorating accessories, handpainted silk, paper crafts, jewellery, porcelain dolls, collectible pigs and bears, grapevine wreaths and twig cottage furniture. There are plenty of ideas for that special Christmas gift, unique hand -made items that are carefully made and will be treasured for years to come. In addition to crafts at the Lambton Heritage Mu- seum, the festival has expanded to offer a second venue of crafts at the Thedford-Bosanquet Community Centre. Now, over 100 quality craftspeople offer all the latest decorating accessories, as well as more traditional, heri- tage -based craftworks such as pottery, needlepoint, shadow boxes and folk art. With paid general admission at one venue, admission to the other venue is free, and visitors may begin their shopping at either location. To avoid the rush, it is recommended visitors begin at the Thedford-Bosanquet Community Centre when the show opens, promptly at 10 a.m. Some artisans from Lambton County include Peggy Mulvihill of Sarnia with country dolls; Rosemary Kre- viazuk of Sarnia with tole -painted miniatures; Karen Hughston of Wyoming with stuffed teddy bears; Gerald and Bonnie Nickels of Camlachie with folk art creations, and Pat McKin- non of Sarnia with handmade chocolate items.. Other vendors for the country -flavor event come from as far away as Oshawa and Manitoulin Island. The Village of Thedford has scheduled a return of their Fall Fantasia which was such a success last year, combining a farmer's market of local bog and orchard produce, with bake, sidewalk and yard sales. This assort- ment offers something for everyone, and resulted in one of the busiest days in memory in the village last year. This is the chance to stock up on winter squash and apples fresh from the farm gate, to discover a neglect- ed antique amongst the outdoor flea -market boot110, or to get an end -of - season bargain in one of the shops. Fall Fantasia tbkes place in Thedford village centre, and is free of charge. Visitors should also take the time to tour the seve private studios of the Sand Country Artisans in Port Franks, open especially for the festival. Here the talented owners offer active demonstratior$ and personal expla- nations about their chosen media and style in pottc.yaacrylic paints, fabric arts, twig furniture, and paper tole. At Cherry Lodgt% Gallery, just one of the tour stops, the work of over 50 arCans is presented in a beautiful wooded setting atop an ancjnt sand dune. Oth- er Port Franks artisan shops include Agsable River Rustic Works, with willow furniture; Sew What? with hand sew- ing; the Patricia Downie paint studio;. Wkndy Hoy pottery; Marilyn McCordic's hand embroidered sweats; and the paper tole of Mandolink Custom Framing. Alt the studios are well marked, and a free route map is available at the museum. The Friends of Pinery Park giftshop is also open for the weekend, offering winter birdfeeders, birdhouses, and gift- giving with a nature theme. Their Savannah Shores shop is located in the Visitor Centre, admission free with regular park and mission. The Fall Color Festival originated as a fundraiser to sup- port programs and activities at the Lambton Heritage mu- seum, and still represents a major source of funding for the museum after 16 years of operation. it is also known from economic im- pact studies that the event generates considerable positive financial impat4 for area hotels and restaurants, with some businesses reporting it as their busiest day of the year Many area residents have weekend overnight guests coming specifically for the festival, which adds to the visitation of the area and extends the tourist season. The Lambton Fall Color and Craft Festival is held annually on the weekend immediately following Thanksgiving Day. Questions pertaining to the event may be directed to the Sarnia-Lambton Tourist Hotline at 1- 800-265-0316. This is the chance to stock up on winter squash and apples fresh from the farm gate, to discover a ne- glected antique amongst the outdoor flea -market booths, or to get an end -of -- season bargain in one of the shops.
