Rec Centre offers
new programs for
busy fall season
EXETER - The South Huron Recreation Centre has expanded
the programs and services usually offered in their fall program and
are gearing up for what has been traditionally their busiest time of
the year.
Due to the popularity of the youth gymnastics program, they
have offered a new kindergym for children between three and five
years old designed to develop movement patterns and body con-
trol in young children.
Rec Centre Director, Lynn Farquhar said
this new program is oriented specifically
for the younger age group and adopts a
fun approach reinforced by games and
music.
Atc
Other new activities being of-
fered this fall are youth dance
lessons, a recreational dance
program for youths from four to
12 years -old, and a new advanced
course in the Kate Fletcher's
dog obedience class which,
according to Farquhar, is the
most popular non -sporting program offered by the centre.
The 1995-96 hockey pool club is not a new idea, however, last
year it never got off the ground because of the NHL strike.
"People were really looking forward to trying the hockey pool
and they were very disappointed when it was canned. 1 think it
will he just as popular this year," said Farquhar adding the pro-
ceeds from the pool will help fund the ec Centre's warm room pro-
ject.
"Fall is usually our busiest time of the year because everybody
wants to get hack into shape after their summer holidays and
sometimes they're looking to try something new," Farquhar said.
That was the main reason for creating the new gymnastics and
dance programs. She expects they will he popular activities among
youngsters not enrolled in an ice sport.
"I think with the diversity of programs we're offering this year,
we are going to have a big fall season," said Farquhar.
