MADD to
organize
Huron/Bruce
WINGHAM - MADD Canada,
the nation-wide organization deter-
mined to save lives by changing in-
dividual, community, and govern-
ment attitudes, practices and
policies with respect to impaired
driving and to aid the victims of
this violent crime, has announced
Tuesday, September 12 as the date
for the formative meeting of the
MADD Huron/Bruce chapter. The
Wingham Golf and Curling Club,
located one mile south and one
mile east of Wingham off Highway
4, will be the site. The time will be
7:30 p.m.
Although named "Mothers
Against Drunk Driving", the group
welcomes members regardless of
gender or age. in fact, many of the
most active members, directors,
and officers are indeed male. Jim
Wideman, the executive director of
MADD Canada, will attend the
meeting and it is hoped that as
many as possible from the Huron/
Bruce area and beyond will attend
to hear Wideman tell of his fami-
ly's experience as victims of a
drunk driver and what MADD Can-
ada strives to do every day to pre-
vent other families from suffering a
similar experience.
It is expected that a full slate of
officers and a board of directors
will be selected at this formative
meeting from a group of volun-
teers. Individual membership and
corporate involvement is encour-
aged. For further information re-
garding this meeting or MADD Hu-
ron/Bruce, please call Barb Rintoul
at 357-3079 (Whitechurch), or
Lynne Magee at 357-1460 (Wing -
ham). Everyone is encouraged to
attend and be part of the solution in
the fight against the killer crime of
drunk driving.
Mark "Sparky" Bard is tended to by his pit crew and track officials after his nitrous pow-
ered drag bike burst into flames during a race at Grand Bend Motorplex on Sunday. Bard
had to stand on top of the seat of the buming bike to prevent his legs from getting
burned as his flaming motorcycle coasted to a stop at the end of the track. He suffered
minor burns to his right wrist.
