residents
enjoy movie,
entertainment
HENSALL - Residents of
Queensway welcomed Rev. Van
Essen as he led the Tuesday church
service. Rev. Van Essen also ac-
companied the hymn singing as he
played the keyboard.
Pastoral Care volunteer Winni-
fred Hutton visited Wednesday.
Residents always appreciate the
time spent with Winnie.
"Far From Home" was the movie
matinee Thursday afternoon. This
movie held everyone in rapt atten-
tion as; they followed the adven-
tures of yellow dog and his master.
Walks and wheelchair rides out-
doors were planned for Thursday
evening but the weather mart had
other ideas. Residents watched the
action outside from their windows.
With no hydro there wasn't much
else to do. There was lots of excite-
ment as tree limbs and picnic um-
brellas flew past.
Friday noon several residents and
a family member along with volun-
teers feasted on barbecued hotdogs
and hamburgs. This was enjoyed in
the air conditioned sunroom as ac-
tivity staff barbecued outdoors.
We want to thank everyone who
made our strawberry social such a
success.
Audrey Brand won the table top
barbecue. Dorothy Brintnell won
the T-shirt. Sadie Craig won the
hat. Money was donated to the lo-
cal Alzheimer chapter.

Some residents were
without hydro.
SAINTSBURY - Some residents
in the arca were without hydro for
several days and were busy cutting
up downed limbs and trees because
of the recent storm that swept
through southwestern Ontario.
Congratulations again this week
to Harley Davis, winning first place
at Big Core Raceway, Brampton in
the 60 cc Pee Wee division on Sun-
day.
Starr Davis visited this weekend
with aunt and uncle Donna and
Mike Martin and cousin Michelle
of London; and visited grandmoth-
er Dorothy Dietrich in Victoria
Hospital.
Ralph and Joyce Simpson called
on the Davis's and MacGillivray's
Sunday evening following the din-
ner at Centralia United Church..
Bob MacGillivray, Katie -
Scarlett, Caleb and Corbin visited
on Saturday with aunt Anne Ste-
venson of Toronto.

THAMES ROAD - The pork bar-
becue held Sunday at Thames Road
Church was attended by 197 peo-
ple. The Board of Managers orga-
nized the barbecue with help from
many of the congregation.

Rev. Jim Allsop was in charg.: of
the joint church service on Sunday
morning.
The responsive reading was taken
from Psalm 116.
The choir sang "It was a miracle"
accompanied by pianist Rhoda
Rohde. The children's hymn "Jesus
loves Me" was sung.
The scripture lesson from Leviti-
cus 19:1-2, 9-18, and from I John
2: 7-11 was read by Jack Stewart.
Rev. Allsop read from the Gospel
of Matthew 5:38-48. The title of his
sermon was "Unconditional Love".
The closing hymn was "Lord
speak to me". The plants in the
church were placed there in memo-
ry of the late Howard Cunnington.
Sympathy is extended to Kay and
family.
On Sunday, July 23 a joint
church service will be held at Elim-
ville at 10 a.m.
On Sunday, July 30 a joint Sun-
day service and picnic is set for
Morrison Dam at 10 a.m. The con-
gregation are reminded to bring
their own dishes, cutlery, lawn
chairs and picnic basket.
On August 21-26 Vacation Bible
School will be held at Thames
Road church, from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. It will cost a loonie per night
per child.
The U.C.W. Fall Regional is
planned for September 13 at Cen-
tralia United Church: Registration
is at 6:45 p.m., coffee at 7:00 p.m.
and the business at 7:30 p.m.

Belated get well wishes are ex-
tended to Barry Jeffery and Dennis
Pym who underwent surgery re-
cently.
Bill and Rhoda Rohde had lunch
with Marguerite Gibson of London
last Monday.
Oren Grace of Largo, Florida,
Ross and Mildred Merrill of Bay-
field, Bill and Rhoda Rohde had
lunch and dinner with Gordon and
Myrtle Pengelly of Belgrave on
Friday.
The annual Miller picnic was
held on Sunday at Hensall Park.
The 70th reunion of the Hodgert
family was held last Saturday at
Dashwood. There were 110 people
at lunch and 99 at supper. Ashley
Rigby guessed what was in the can
and Eric Ellis guessed how much
the watermelon weighed. Anne
Marie Hodgert used her math skills
to guess how many jelly beans
there were and Larry Mayo knew
how many purple jelly beans there
were.
The youngest member attending
was Fred Mahon and the oldest
was Florence Richardson. Mac and
Helen Hodgert had the most grand-
children present and the adult and
child with the most letters in their
name were Mary Rigby and Keith
McIntosh.
Running race winners were as

Zesty Radish Dip
For your summer celebrations, surround
this cool, refreshing dip with a selection
of crisp vegetables. Radishes are bursting
with color and flavor .
12 red radishes
1 small clove garlic
3/4 cup light mayonnaise
1/2 cup yogurt
2 tbsp white vinegar
• Wash radishes, dry, and trim. In food processor, finely grind
radishes, dropping garlic through feed tube with motor
running. Scrape down bowl with rubber spatula; add
mayonnaise, yogurt and vinegar. Process until well combined
and smooth.
• To make by hand, grate radishes, mince garlic and blend with
remaining ingredients. Store, covered in refrigerator for up to 3
days. Preparation time: 10 m..tutes; makes 1-3/4 cups.

The children enjoyed several can-
dy scrambles which wound up the
afternoon of sports.
Group pictures were taken to
commemorate the 70th picnic.
Marion Cann made a banner for the
occasion. A cookbook was availa-
ble, edited by Judith Parker, with
recipes from members of the Hod-
gert clan.
