(Absent: Rebecca Dixon) Bridal shower held at Thames Road A shower was held for Wendy Ballantyne in the church base- ment. Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD - About 50 women and girls gathered in the chur:h basement on Friday evening to honour Wendy Ballantyne, bride -elect of August. The base- ment was decorated with pots of Bowers, daisies, clematis, greenery, a ladder, decorated tree branches and drapes around the platform. To the strains of 'Here Comes the Bride', played by Jean Hodgert, Wendy was escorted to the plat- form by Melonie Miller. Barb Ballantyne was chairperson for the program beginning with a piano solo by Kristy Bray. Jessica Bray did a tap dancing number. A contest "Proverbial Pictures" was quite interesting. Vanessa Bray played a piano solo. Cloggers Maggie and Sarah Mill- er and Megan Parker did a number. A reading "The Magic of Love" was given by Diane Jeffery. A con- test "Wackie Wordies" was en- joyed. Both contests were looked after by Kathy Bray. Melonie Miller read a nicely worded address and also told about Wendy when she used to babysit the Miller girls. The program numbers were well done and enjoyed by all. Jessica Bray, Kristy Bray, Alyssa Friends of Pinery take a hike GRAND BEND - On July 15 and 16 hundreds of people will "take -a - hike" with The Friends of Pinery Park to help raise funds for park bi- cycle trail. The hike will take place on Pinery's new Partnership Trail (1.5 km) which will be opened just in time for this event. Hikers with pledges and forms will get into the park for free during the event and can "Take -a -hike" on the new trail anytime between 10:00 am - 5:00 pm this weekend. A flat fee of $ 1 per pledge and ten pledges or More per hike is suggest. ed. Children accompanied by an adult hike for free. All pledge mon- ey must be turned into the "Friends" at the registration tent Lo- cated at the start of the partnership trail. Any individual that donates $10 or more will receive a tax re- ceipt. The Pinery Hike is just one of the 200 hike events happening in parks across Canada coordinated by the Canadian Parks Partnership to help raise awareness and support for parks and historic sites. Moran and Jennifer Veal carried in the many gifts. After opening the gifts, Wendy thanked everyone and invited the womcn to come to see her wedding and to her.reception. Everyone joined in singing "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow" and everyone enjoyed refreshments. Church service Rev. Jim Allsop was in charge of the joint church service at Elim- ville on Sunday morning. The responsive reading was read with Rev. Allsop leading and the congregation taking part. The choir sang "Thank You" accompanied by Marjorie Johns on the piano. The children's hymn "Come Children Join to Sing" was sung and Rev. Allsop told the children's story "Choosing a Gift." The Scripture lessons iI Kings 5:1-14, G4latians 6:I-16 was read by Sharon Lynn. Rev. Allsop read from the Gospel of Luke 10: 1-11, 16-20. The title of his sermon was "The News and the Cross". The closing hymn was "Jesus Calls Us O'er the Tumult". The two potted plants in baskets were placed in the church in mem- ory of the late Howard Cunnington by his family. Sympathy is extend- ed to Kay and her family. Coming events Next Sunday, July 16 is a joint service at Thames Road at 10 a.m. A pork barbecue is planned for July 16 at Thames Road from 5 to 7 p.m. Advance tickets only. They may be bought from Pat Ballan- tyne, Murray Dawson, Scot Mor- gan, Dale Simpson, Bill Rohde and Paul Warwick. On July 23 a joint service will be held at Elimville at 10 a.m. On Sunday, July 30 a joint ser- vice and picnic will be held at Mor- rison Dam at 10:00 a.m. A Vacation Bible School is planned for August 21 to 25, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Thames Road Church. It will cost a Ioonie per night per child.
