OPP say no traffic
problems in Lucan
LUCAN - Sgt. Bob Erskine, head
of the Lucan detachment of the On-
tario Provincial Police detachment
told council at the July 5 meeting,
"I don't think there is a traffic or
speeding problem in the village."
Erskine had been asked by coun-
cil to check for speeders on Nico-
line, Market and Main
streets after receiving
numerous complaints.
With the complaints
came suggestions of
traffic lights at the in-
tersection of Main
street and Concession
4 and four-way stops
on other streets.
In reply to the speed-
ing question, Erskine replied, " We
have had radar on these streets for
two full days and did not find one
vehicle going over the speed limit."
Erskine continued, " We have
had the same complaints, especially
about big trucks in Ailsa Craig and
there again did not find any speced-
ers. Larger vehicles seem to create
the image that they are going faster
than they actually are."
Councillor Rosemary Gahlinger-
Beaune suggested there was a
problem with speeders on Nicotine
during the evening hours. To this
Erskine said,"We have two officers
living on this street and they do not
perceive a problem."
On the subject of
traffic lights and
four-way stops, Ers-
kine said, " These
moves would create
more problems than
what you would
solve. It's better to
let traffic flow than
to stop it."
In conclusion, Erskine agreed to
have his officers set up radar equip-
ment on Market street during the
evening hours in the near future
and added, "We have three vehi-
cles with radar equipment in con-
tinuous operation on area roads
every day."
"I don't think
there is a traffic
or speeding prob-
lem in the vil-
lage."
Popularity of Kirkton's
Klassic Kruise soaring
Despite rainy weather, turnout was better than expected

Classic cars such as these, plus an a
capella band, munchies, door priz-
es, raffle tickets and fundraisers
were the ingredients of Kirkton's
Klassic Kruise Thursday night un-
der a breezy, balmy sky.
Between 1500 and 2000 car en-
thusiasts appeared at the event that
displayed close to 240 classic cars.
"Considering the (rainy) weather
all around us, we would've had an
even bigger turn -out," said organiz-
er Ray Venturin.
The seeds of Kirkton's Klassic
Kruise were sown six years ago by
Venturin and Kirk Blackler, both of
Kirkton, and Paul and Sheila
McNaughton of St. Marys.
"We expected 20 cars the first
year and we got 70," said Blackler,
adding the number of cars being
registered for the event grows sub-
stantially each year.
A classic car is defined as being
20 years or older while newer cars
on display belong to a rare class.
"(The cars) have to have some
special notoriety of sorts," said
Blackler.
Most car owners arrived from
within a 50 -mile radius to display
their gems.
Dave Favalaro, of London,
brought his 1926 Model T Touring
to the show. This black, low -rider
beauty, which cost Favalaro
$33,000 to build over the span of
five years, is due for its next paint
job this fall.
Favalaro put 2,000 miles on the
car in one and a half weeks just
touring to different car shows in
Strathroy, Woodstock and London.

After your first peel, your

Wrinkles, lines, large pores and
