Kids swim, dive and splash for free at the Exeter Public Swim-
ming Pool.
EXETER - They flew
planes, ate chili, played
volleyball, swam, fished
in wading pools and
hunted for Canadian li-
cense plates. And most
importantly, they turned
their faces toward the sky
to take in the fireworks.
The White Squirrel was
there to see it all, every
bit of Exeter's 128th Can-
ada Day Celebrations.
It all began on Friday
night with a bike dec-
orating contest for the
youngsters. The Exeter
Elite Baton Club put on a
twirling demonstration,
the "Buckles, Boots &
Spurs" Line Dancing
Club Kicked their heels
and stomped their feet
for a large and ap-
preciative crowd, while
the White Squirrel
hugged everyone at will.
Mother nature decided
to pay a visit with a
strong 10 minute down-
pour, just in time for the
Exeter Legion Com-
munity Band and the flag
raising ceremony but that
didn't dampen the spirit
of White Squirrel day.
Saturday started out
with a pancake and sau-
sage breakfast served by
Mayor Ben Hoogenboom
and Conservative MPP
Helen Johns. The en-
ergetic played volleyball
and slo-pitch while the
brave sampled chili at the
Chili Cookoff contest.
Even the air was filled
with a buzz as the Forest
City flyers flew their re-
mote controlled airplanes
from the ground guiding
them through fancy
twirls and double loops.
There was always plenty
of activities for the kids
and families enjoyed a
delicious roast beef din-
ner sponsored by the Ex-
eter Agricultural Society.
The Exeter and Area
and•Stephen Township
Fire Department ended
the evening by putting on
a magnificent display of
fireworks setting the
night sky ablaze.
It was Exeter's way of
saying "Happy Birthday
Canada!"
