Biddulph-
Lucan best
in north
Middlesex
meet
LUCAN - Students from Lucan-
Biddulph public school were the
big winners in last week's Middles-
ex County Area 4 track and field
meet held at North Middlesex Sec-
ondary School in Parkhill.
In a very close competition
which went down to the final
events, Lucan-Biddulph edged
Parkhill West Williams by 663
points to 641 points. Next came
McGillivray 393, Oxbow 384 and
East Williams 322.
No existing records were broken
due mainly to the very warm tem-
peratures.
The young athletes competed in
triple jump, standing jump, ball
throw, high jump, long jump, 75
and 100 metre dashes, relays and
long distance running.
Lucan Karate
for charity
LUCAN - The Lucan school of
Karate hosted its first annual karate
tournament at the Community Cen-
tre in Lucan on Sunday.
Canned food was donated to the
Ailsa Craig and Area Thrift Store
and Food Bank, and $125 dollars
was raised. The money was donat-
ed to.the Lucan Help Abuse and
Violence End Now organization.
Flame of hope
Constable Rod Herbert led the way for area public
school students who participated in the Exeter OPP Torch
Run to raise money for the Special Olympics. The torch
was carried throughout the Zurich, Hensall and Exeter re-
gions on Tuesday.
Exeter Thunder ties Marconi
EXETER - The under 19 Exeter
Thunder Soccer team opened their
first game of the season with a 2-2
tie against Marconi on Sunday.
Exeter got on the scoreboard first
with a goal by Bill Kline but Mar-
coni soon followed with a goal of
their own leaving the game tied at
the end of the first half.
Marconi went ahead in the sec-
ond half with an unexpected goal
and they looked as though they
would finish the game up by one,
but with only twenty minutes left to
play Exeter's Chad Gilfillan scored
to tie it up.
Exeter came close to winning the
game when they scored for the
third time, but the goal was disal-
lowed and the game ended as a two
all tie.
