Kimble Ainslie
Reform candidate - Huron
I am very pleased to be the Re
form candidate for Huron in this
provincial election. As the party
leader of Reform Ontario I shall do
all I can to ensure that the interests
of Huron are represented in the On-
tario Legislature and across Onta-
rio. It is time Huron had significant
leadership representation in the
Government of Ontario, not just an-
other backbencher, inevitably
shunted aside by traditional party
discipline.
As a 21 year resident of Huron, I
have had contacts with all parts of
the county through my work, my
friends and family.
After going to public and high
school in Goderich, I had the
chance to begin my working life at
the Goderich Signal Star as an ad-
vertising salesperson. Later, I wrote
my masters' thesis on Huron
County government for Queen's
University. Then in 1977 I ob-
tained my first consulting study
from Huron County Council. In
that study I was pleased to offer
some innovative ideas on county
restructuring -- recommending
against regional government, and
in support of local options on pub-
lic health and social services. Since
the late 1970s, I have conducted
market research studies for private
businesses in the County and ad-
vised local governments periodical-
ly on economic development, rec-
reation and tourism. Mine has been
a sustained contribution to Huron. I
am no "Johnny or Sally -come -
lately."
The central issue of this cam-
paign is the proper management of
Ontario's finances. Bob Rae and

We cannot afford to carry on with
politics as usual in Ontario. The
Provincial debt of more than 90 bil-
lion dollars is jeopardizing our fu-
ture. Not only is our economic
well-being at risk, our health care
program and educational system are
threatened.
During the two terms I spent as a
councillor for the Town of Clinton
from 1990-1994, I witnessed the
reckless and shortsighted spending
upon which the Provincial govern-
ment was embarking. I witnessed
the mushrooming of superfluous
John Jewitt
Liberal candidate - Huron
My names is John Jewitt, your
Liberal candidate in Huron, and I
am pleased to have been given this
forum to voice my ideas, opinions,
priorities and policies for this up-
coming Provincial election.
I am proud to be a Liberal and
proof of this is my life-long in-
volvement in the Liberal party. I be-
lieve that our senior levels of gov-
ernment must change their ways
and begin to live within their finan-
cial means. In this election, I am es-
pecially proud of the Liberal Par-
ty's commitment to putting their
fiscal house in order. Lyn McLeod
is determined to balance the budget
within four years. A Liberal Gov-
ernment will introduce legislation
that will compel governments to
balance their budgets within a giv-
en economic cycle. We have also
pledged to reduce our expenses by
$4.1 billion from non-essential ser-
vices, government waste, welfare
abuse and cutting the government
payroll through attrition. Lean gov-
ernment and fiscal responsibility
are some of my greatest priorities.
Huron County needs a strong ru-
ral voice in Ontario. Having

PC candidate - Huron
Like many of you. when I was
growing up, a job and a secure fu-
ture were taken for granted in Onta-
rio. Today that's not the case. Many
of our young people no longer con-
sider Ontario to be a province of
opportunity, they worry that their
future options are being threatened
by a huge debt.
1t doesn't have to be like this. A
government that recognizes the real
problems and is committed to major
change can turn things around. I
know that Mike Hurls has spent the
last 4 years listening and under-
stands the changes this province
needs. Our Common Sgme policies
are fair, do -able and effective.
All my life I've tried to practise
what I preach. I've been involved
in many projects when I felt action
was required - I can't sit out this
election.
We each need to act wisely,
strongly and immediately to set
this province right again.
In all sectors of Huron County,

Paul Klopp
NDP candidate - Huron
It has been an honour to serve the
residents of Huron County u your
MPP for the past four and a half
years. I welcome the Times -
Advocate's offer to let me share my
views with you.
We must all work together to
build a better Ontario. Premier Bob
Rae has the leadership and experi-
ence our province needs. Governing
Ontario requires balance and fair-
ness. Our campaign routs on three
key principles:
1. Continuing support for essen-
tial public services like health care.
.are f x seniors, education, policing
and support for municipalities and
local services.
2. Continuing support for jobs
and economic growth through suc-
cessftd programs like jobsOntario
Training which has helped create
773 jobs in Huron County and cut
welfare costs.
3. A steady, firm but fair ap-
proach to deficit reduction.
I respect my opponents, but my
experience in government clearly
shows that it is silly to promise big
tax cuts, to absorb federal Liberal
cuts in health care and post-
secondary education funding worth
nances close to bankruptcy. Credit
and bond agencies keep downgrad-
ing our provincial credit, thus
weakening our Canadian dollar and
raising interest rates. The financial
mismanagement must stop.
It is now evident that we'll be get-
ting rid of the NDP on June 8th The
NDP therefore is not our current
problem. Huron residents must
make sure they do not get an other
"pig in a poke", after June 8th. We
cannot just keep throwing govern-
ments out of office, and then giving
the next one a shot to mess up the
works. Hams and McLeod will be
no better than the socialist Rae.
We must really think about what
is going to work for all our futures,
and not just write off all politicians
as crooks or worse. If we, all of us,
do not take control of the situation
and ensure proper government ac-
countability over the long term, we
are going to get progressively deep-
er into trouble.
Reform Ontario and I say do not
place yourself entirely at the mercy
of politicians. Take control. We say
support a political option that un -
government programs, legislation
and bureaucracy that now pervades
our lives daily. I fought against it
tenaciously.
Each of the traditional parties has
played a role in bringing us to the
present crisis. Empty promises,
flattering words and political op-
portunism can no longer justify the
blind leadership, spotty integrity
and fiscal irresponsibility that has
been demonstrated.

35 years, I strongly recognize the
positive contributions rural areas
have made to the success of Onta-
rio. I have benefitted from the pres-
ence of industry in Huron County
as an employee of Champion Road
Machinery in Goderich and will
strive to encourage more industry
for our County at Queen's Park. I
have also supported small business
as the backbone of Ontario's econ-
omy and will continue to be a
voice for small business. Huron
County has a lot to offer. It's time
for Queen's Park to recognize our
contributions.
Huron County needs someone
who will make Health Care a prior-
ity. With my work on the Seaforth
Hospital Board I have contributed
to the success of local hospitals. At
a time when previous Tory govern -
dented call for the restoration of
sound fiscal management, includ-
ing the responsible operation of
government. The citizens of Huron
County are looking for real leader-
ship in what many consider has be-
come a "valueless" society. Most of
all, Huron County needs a strong
MPP who will listen to constituents
and effectively represent their val-
ues and interests at Queens Park.
Someone who has the busines.4.
ability and the will to help make'
difficult choices.
My formal education (Degrees in
Economics, Commerce and a Mas-
ters Degree in Business Adminis-
tration) has broadened my perspec-
tive and with 13 years business
management experience, I under -
billions, balance the budget and
continue funding for essential pub-
lic services all at the same time. It
simply does not add up. I will not
offer unrealistic promises of a big
tax cut. We must maintain our com-
mitments to health care, to seniors,
to jobs and e000 g owth and to
balancing the In other
words. I support a bdanced and fair
approach.
As a fifth generation Huron
County fanner, it is a groat honour
to serve as Parliamentary Assistant
to Agriculture. Food and Rural Af-
fairs Minister Elmer Buchanan.
Since 1990, I have helped shape the
Bob Rae Government's agriculture
policy.

derstands that voters know their
own interests, and voters, as a
whole, can do a better job making
political and economic choices for
the future. Support direct democra-
cy.
Direct democracy ensures that
you take control of political choic-
es. By direct citizen voting on leg-
islation, i.e. voting regularly by tel-
ephone from your home, you can
choose what kind of public services
you want, what size of deficit you
want, what level of taxation you
want, and nobody gets to dictate to
you. Not party bosses, not special
interest groups, not the Tories, the
Grits nor the Socialists.
Reform Ontario and I have policy
positions that we are recommend-
ing, and these recommendations are
meant to initiate debate on the kind
of government we all need.
For example, we recommend a
balanced budget by fiscal year end-
ing 1997-98, i.e. in the two fiscal
years after 1995, with $6 billion
dollars in spending cuts per year.
We recommend a balanced bud -
a distinct alternative in this elec-
tion. As the Family Coalition Party
candidate for Huron riding I
am committed to representation
that is grounded on moral princi-
ples that have evaporated from the
political lexicon. Without preemi-
nent guiding convictions to govern
decision making, political policies
will yield only disappointment and
frustration.
Based on principles of resource-
fulness, discernment, frugality,
ments were closing hospitals, I
was on the front line fighting
against closures. I will remind
Queen's Park that our hospitals are
valuable and essential assets to our
communities.
Huron County also needs some-
one who has a commitment to
strong, efficient and responsible ed-
ucation in our schools. I have wit-
nessed firsthand the strengths and
shortcomings in our educational
system during my 14 years on the
Board of Education. I have enjoyed
working with young people and
will keep their interests in mind as
we move into the 21st century.
Huron County needs someone
who recognizes that the ordinary
working person feels exploited by
the high levels of taxation. Our Lib-
eral party has the only realistic plan
stand the realities of business and
the need to operate within a budget.
I live in Exeter with my husband,
Larry, and our two sons. As a busi-
ness woman and as a wife and
mother, and having parents who are
now seniors, I understand the push
and pull of modern day life. As Di-
rector and Treasurer of the Huron
United Way and through my volun-
teer math and english tutoring at a
local school, I've become very
aware of the special demands we
have in Huron County.
I also understand that someone
has to help us out of the financial
mess we are now in. I am commit-
ted to undertaking this role for the
citizens of Huron County. It's my
way of making a difference. And
FarmPLUS and the Feeder Cattle
and Commodity Loan Programs, a
growing ethanol industry, stable
funding for the OFA and CFFO, a
solid program for rural develop-
ment through jobsOntairo Commu-
nity Action and a long-term com-
mitment to the Farm Tax Rebate
Program are now in in place. These
actions will help rural Ontario meet
the future with confidence. We
should all remember that a strong
agricultural economy benefits eve-
ryone.
Ontario's fiscal situation is a con-
cern. But let's look at the whole
story. The Social Contract was a
difficult decision but I believe it
was the por!ect one. By asking eve-
ryone on the province's payroll to
take a little less, we saved 40,000
get, first, then tax cuts after 1998,
starting with the retail sales tax re-
duced from 8% to 5% over three
years. We say a balanced budget is
the first action to reform govern-
ment not the only one, as the Tories
•
and Grits say.
We say that parents should be al-
lowed as much "School choice" as
they want, to ensure a proper basic
education for their children.
We are opposed to farm unioniza-
tion and will encourage repeal of
legislation requiring compulsory
check -off of "general farm organi-
zation" membership dues.
We want a complete overhaul of
the Employer Health Tax program
to remove this harsh corporate tax
on small business, to be replaced
with an equitable source deduction
system.
We favour the gradual privatiza-
tion of Ontario Hydro, beginning
with Ontario Hydro's electrical gen-
erating system, allowing for co gen-
eration between Hydro and the pri-
vate sector.
We recommend that Ontario
honesty, justice and accountability,
the Family Coalition Party is
committed to wholesale reform of
the educational system, availability
of essential health care services,
eliminating government waste and
bureaucracy and stricter criminal
justice and social assistance sys-
tems.
I challenge you to opt for a real
alternative before it is too late.
You can make a difference.
to reduce taxation by 5% over 5
years. Credibility is the key issue
in politics today: By listening to
people's concerns and ideas and by
being open-minded and willing to
consider change, I have earned the
respect of my community. I am
proud of the many endorsements I
have received by respected mem-
bers of our Huron County commu-
nities. I am also proud of the en-
dorsements the Liberal party's plan
has received from leading experts
in their fields.
Huron County hassent a clear
message that it wants governments
to change. The Liberal Party be-
lieves that we have to be more ac-
countable to our constituents. We
have, in our plan, included reforms
that allow MPPs to vote more free-
ly without being silenced in the
it's my way of making sure each of
us can face the future with confi-
dence. I am personally committed
to Common Sense government. Af-
ter all, only with fiscal responsibil-
ity and real leadership can we pro-
tect the programs you and I care
about.
My campaign is grounded in the
belief that each of us understands
that the provincial economy is sti-
fled by debt, yet spending remains
out of control. We need practical
solutions as detailed in the Com-
mon Sense Revolution and Com-
mon Sense mailers you received,
like those you will see in my cam-
paign video, and those you can ac -
jobs and S6 billion. Slashing pro-
grams people need is not the an-
swer. Laying off thousands, like the
federal government and my oppo-
nents are proposing is not the an-
swer. A steady, firm but fair ap-
proach has cut the deficit in half
since the recession. Ontario is on
track for a balanced budget in
1997.
Improving. efficiency and pre-
venting fraud is important to the
Rae Oovernment. The new Ontario
Photo Health Card will eliminate
S65 million in fraud each year.'The
new case-by-case review of every
welfare file will save taxpayers
money and protect the system for
those truly in need.
In conclusion, may I suggest that
