UCW display their hobbies
AILSA CRAIG - The Ailsa Craig United Church
Women met in the Sunday School room for a Fun -
Night on Valentine's Day after Mary Scafe conduct-
ed a worship service of scripture passages from
Psalm 90 and second Corinthians Chapter 5, prayers
and some meditative readings, the fun time began.
Sylvia Thirlwall had a name game which was very
enjoyable but also a good memory test. Then the
group had a show and tell time of hobbies and tal-
ents.
Jean Maguire had a valentine wreath and a valen-
tine cookie for everyone. Yvette MacGregor had a
display of books on growing herbs. Pat McDonnell
had some bunnies that she had created. Sylvia Thirl-
wall does sewing and she had a pretty bag for hold-
ing plastic grocery bags.
Mary Sutherland showed a bridesmaid dress that
she had made. Mary Scafe brought a beautiful quilt-
ed tablecloth and a big teddy bear, and Margaret
Tweddle had cardigans that she knits for her grand-
son,
Verlyn Campbell had a display of beautiful valen-
tines - some perhaps 70 years old - what a talented -
group!
Mary Sutherland who presided for the business
meeting drew attention to the display of gifts that
the members had brought for the Women's rural
Resource Centre. Instead of our monthly meeting in
March we will participate on the World Day of
Prayer meeting in Craigwiel Nursing Home audi-
torium and be very much involved in the roast beef
supper on Thursday March 16.
Wilma McIntosh had made tickets for the mem-
bers to sell. Several of the members who had at-
tended the Middlesex Presbyterial Annual meeting
gave some interesting highlights of the meeting.
The quilting group will soon be working on a
quilt. The community Outreach group had sent
birthday, get well and sympathy cards and on Val-
entine's day the sick and shut-ins were given a read
carnation.. Sorne.new books that had been added to.
our church library were reviewed: two of them
were Where Does a Mother Go to Resign by Barba-
ra Johnson and God the Greatest User of Capital
Letters by Andrew Jensen.
The fun evening ended with everyone gathering
around the table to enjoy fellowship and some pink
valentine dessert with a cup of tea.
