At Huron Homes for Youth our goal is
to help youth. parents and their .families
during tines of personal and/or family cri-
sis. In the last three years our agency has
faced reductions in government funding.
Our•greatest challenge.for each of these three years has been to
raise enough money to continue tooffer our services (counse-
(ling. mediation. emergency shelter. crisis intervention). In 1998•
fundraising will again be our greatest challenge.

The challenge will he to recruit new hoard members and volun-
tecrs who will be willing to work the existing hoard of directors
to plan and implement new fundraising initiatives. individuals

• for a second consecutive election the Federal Liberals have swept
the province claiming all but one riding Man unprecedented. repeat vic-
tory. The three incumbents were once again reelected in the three area
ridings. Paul Steckle wino, for Huron/Bruce with 51 per cent of the
votes; John Richardson for Perth/ Middlesex with 44_ per cent of the
votes and Rose-Marie.Ur won in lLambton/Kent/Middlesex with 46 per
clot oh the rules. • -
' Huron Country Playhouse will host the annual Rotary Conference
with 150 Rotarian and affiliated partners representing 63 clubs from
Ontario and Michigan. The conference is an information session to
inform everyone on.the recent accomplishments of Rotary International
and• (*date them on the status on Ongoing projects conducted by indi-
vidual clubs within the district.

craft accident. Miller. an instructor at Delta Bravo Aviation. was with a
student training in a MX 11 ultralight aircraft. when it lost power after
take off and crashed hack onto the runway: Miller was hospitalied for
minor hack injuries. '
• 250 Huron County Secondary teachers'tlok part in a -province -wide
vote. The results were 84.2 per cent of-OSSTF members voting 'in sup-
port of province -wide action. The vote was'made as the provincial gov-
ernment prepares to introduce legislation that could take away teachers
right to strike: and negotiate.
• • The Morris Tract which is located near the Maitland River in
Goderich has been saved from logging due to• the fund raising efforts
by the Friends of the' Morris Tract' who purchased it from the County
for $3(X),(Hx). it is one of the tow remaining hardwood forests in Huron
County and it contains plants, species which have grown There since the
ice age.•
• Hurondale Dairy, started atter the Second World War by 'the Mock
[limit), has closed its doors after nearly. half a century of being a family
run husiness. Hurondale distribution area once covered Hensall.

The London Alliance, which includes Grand Bend, .Sc. Thomas.
Woodstock and University of Western Ontario. has won its bid for the
2(101 Summer Games. Upgraded beach facilities are part of the plans
for improvement of the village, which will hold the sailing and beach
volleyball events. The cent is expected to generate $42 million in local
spin-off for the four partners.
• The Exeter OPP has recently received their newly designed hats.
The new hats offer effective protection against UV rays and its related
health risks. According to a local officer the new hats are light and
comfortable. By the end of lily more than 500(1 officers across the
prmt-ince will he wearing the wide brimmed hat.
• •Exeter will ..he the host of nearly 300 cyclists who will he rolling
into, town as part of Cyclone '97. Cyclone'97 is a seven day tour across
western Ontario. It includes cyclists of all ages and experience. They
will he staying at the South Huron Recreation Centre for the night.
• While they arc here they will be taking in the sights Exeter, has Wolfer.
•• In preparation for the new lour year program in secondary schools.

Science, Math, Technology and Canadian Studies. The new programs

dles and the light from. the
Christmas tree. With each of the
con'gregadion and visitors holding a
lighted candle. the children walked
to the font in costume portraying
those in' the Christmas story.

-.Queensway Nursing Home on
Christmas morning with a gift. for
each resident. Everyone looks for-
ward to his annual appearance and
many wish to have a picture taken
with him- .•
The Lakeview Singers presented
a Christmas devotional and carol
service Tuesday evening. Almost
30 children took part with their par-
ents in the presentation. -They per-
form at Queensway approximately
every other month. -A time of
refreshments follows the program
• when -residents and their guests
enjoy a visit.

ship service Tuesday .afternoon
with Sharer Dignan' as • volunteer
pianist. Sonic visitors also attended
the service. -
