basketball team lost a :close one,.

their three games of their own tour
nament on the weekend. .
The Panthers lost game one to •
Regina Mundt 53-47. South Huron
coach Terry O'Rourke said his
team'played"very well" tor_ their
first game with great intensity on
defence: But the Panthers were dis-
organized on the offensive end
though some players put -up urine
goad shots. Foul shot shooting was
another sore spot. Panther shooters
were only 10 of 25 from the line.
Darryl Romphf led South Huron
with 13 points with Derek Ether-
ington adding 11 points and Jeremy
VanEshroeck eight points. .
South Huron lost game two to
•Listowel 76-56 despite being tied
going into the. second half.
O'Rourke said the team lacked con-
tinuity on offence and •gave up too
many turnovers. Romphf again led
Panther shooters with 15 points
with VanEshroeck adding 14 points
and Etherington nine points..
South Huron -exploded in their
third and final game for a' 73-33
win over Seaforth, O'Rourke said
team put up an excellent �iverall
effort wuh Chris-Leppington sink-
ing 17 points, Christian Stucklcss
13 points and Etherington with 1(1
points. -
-O'Rourke noted that Stuckless
was a standout during the• tourna-.
mens and "some quality practice
time" will make the team improve.

District High School senior boys
volleyball team's season came to a
screeching halt last week at the Hu
ron=Perth championship tourna-
mentilt Clinton St. Anne's,
The Panther boys finished • in
fourth place after losing their semi-
final -versus St. Mike's three games
to one with game scores 8-15, 4-15,
15-13 and 10-1.5.. The seniors failed
-to. qualify for WOSSA action at
Wingham F.E. MadilLhy losing the
bronze snatch to. Stratford Central
in three straight games -with scores
of: 10-15. 6-15 ,and 4-15.
Fall players contributed in the
match but they were unable to mus-
ter up any consistent attack against
the veteran squads," coach Scott
Halpenny said. • •
Five of South Huron's six starters
are returning next year but Scott
Reid and :.Dave Farquhar have
played .their final volleyball games
as Panthers, Halpenny said.
"I'm very pleased with the com-
mitment of the team and their will-
ingness to learn such a difficult
team sport,"' he said, adding the
season was a successful one. "I
look forward to the 'same dedica-
tion and team comradery next sea-
son." -
