An apple a day
Two Hensall cub scouts spent last Friday afternoon selling apples to -.various businesses

Annual beef supper enjoyed in Granton

The annual beef supper at the
Granton United Church was well at-
tended on Sunday. Nov. 2. : -
In spite of the rain the usual num-
ber of children managed to make

.Church annual bazaar on -Saturday
-Nov. 1 which was held at the Cont
munity.Centre. in Kirkton.
Therewas no service at the Gran-
ton United Church on Sunday, Nov.
2 but some from the congregation
attended the service at Wesley. Unit-
ed'Church.:Pastor Normalie Voakes
entitled her sermon 20/20 Spiritual-
Vision.

Holy Communion and her message
was about following the lives of
commitment and faith of the Saints
who have gone before. The lessons
were read by Norma Paul 'and the
minister. Canon Michael Griffin of
Stratford (a former rector) will be
the officiant next Sunday, Nov. 9 in
the absence of Rev. Glenda Mee!.

October 26, Dave Williams of
Kirkton led the service in -the ab-
sence of Pastor Normalie Voakes.
The sermon was entitled 'Out of
Darkness and into the Light' based
on the lessons from Job 42 and
Mark 10.
The mens breakfast preceded the

Unit 5 met on- October 23 at. the
home of Florence Bryan. President
Margaret Spence opened with the
meditation 'Enter the King.' Psalm
24 was read, followed by a poem.
Florence McRohert - continued
-with=--the--program when -=she read
'We live' by faith, not sight'- and
two - poems 'Living the way we
pray' and 'Money'. Florence then
showed slides and gave a commen-
tary on a trip- to England. Ireland
and Scotland.
Lunch was served by the hostess.

Florence . Bryan was the. hostesw
for the Granton Womens Institute
on Tuesday afternoon, October 21
commencing with -a dessert tea: The
topic, was Education and Cultural
Activities and the roll call was an-
swered.hy a play -attended this year.
The motto was 'In youth we learn,
in age wc.understand'.
Everyone took part in the pro-
gram . when . Elsie Dann told about
the Huron Farm Tour, Florence
Bryan read 'Their Love is Grow-
ing', - Alma Nicholson gave high-
lights of a trip to Heart Lodge, Hal-
iburton,. Muriel Lewis read 'From
Ann Landers' and Florence McRo-
bert had a poem on 'Friendship'.
Muriel Lewis chaired the meet-
ing, opening with a reading 'it's
not easy'.
Business included discussion,
about planting some perennials at
the cenotaph.

St. Patrick's parishioners collect food

SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's
celebrated "All Saints Sunday"
November 2 at 10:30 a.m. with the
Holy -Eucharist service. The Rev.
Stanley Jay -was officient. The pro-
cessional hymn was "Let Saints on
Earth in Concert 'Sing". Liz Jay
gave a children's focus on All
Saints Day entitled "Set Apart for
God". -
Courtney MacGillivray was serv-
er for the service. Si. Patrick's have
their -total Diocesan apportionment
paid in full, their A.C.W.-Fair
Share paid, and a third bale has
been sent to their Prayer Partner in
northern Ontario. Their fundraiser
was a wonderful success and gro-
cery items are'ready to be delivered
this week to Daily Bread.
. _ There was a reminder of the
Arch Bishops Fall Appeal for
Huron Hunger Fund with an insert
envelope in the October issue of
Huron Church news. .
St. Patrick's will celebrate their
Evening Prayer service on
November 8 at 7 p.m.

Board of Education has received a
draft form for families to claim
child care expenses•incurredbe-
cause.of the teachers' strike.
Under the program, families -can.
receive up to $40 per day to cover
the costs of child care during the
