Name Your School Board. contest
Students in all four local public
school boards •are being asked to
help create a new name for the
coming, merged. school board
•urrcntly known as English
Language. Public District School
Board Number 11.
While the nc w district. hoards
were assigned numbers •when the
province announced - the
approaching mergers, the Local
Education Improvement
Committees (LEICs) subsequently
formed were given the opportunity
to recommend new names. District
Board Number 11's LEIC, which
includes trustees from the Elgin,
London, Middlesex. and Oxford
Boards, decided to involve
students in the. quest for a more
:meaningful name. -
"We want students to feel part of
this," said LEIC co-chairs Donna
Mcllmoyle -and. - Heather - Wice:_.
This is their school system, and
they should have the chance to
name it. Every student attending a
school in. one of the four existing
boards is welcome to •participate,
and every school is urged to enter
its top student suggestion."
There is only one criterion for the
name, under the requirements
established by the provincial
Education Improvement
Commission each name entered
must begin with a geographic
identifier that readily tells people
where the new board .is located in.
the province, followed by" the
words "Public District School

Habit. United Church enjoyed a Fun
Night on- October 22. The Sunday
School was -decorated with Ob.
webs and balloons; and the children
enjoyed playing " several, games.
Karen Windsor. and Carol Powe
also served. Halloween -cupcakes
and green slime. .
Canned, goods.' Sunday will he
held at Centralia and Zion West
United Churches On November 2.
Donations. of food items arc. grate-
fully received by the Exeter Food
Bank. .

be held at 7 p.m. at Thames Road

Operation Christmas Child
Help is requested this year to
brighten a child's Christmas in an-
other country: Operation Christmas
Child . is a program organized by
Sarparitan's Purse, an international
Christian- relief organization head-
ed by Franklin Graham. the son of
evangelist Billy Graham.
• The program encourages donors
of all ages to fill Shoeboxes with
items such as school supplies,
toothpaste. clothing: hygiene items
and toys for .distribution to children
in some of the poorer .nations a-
round thc World.-

36 counties including Rwanda.
Bosnia, Romaina, Slovenia and
Croatia. This year's goal is to pro-
vide 1.500,000 Christmas shoeliox-
