ciety's Coffee Break at the Villa last week. The awareness -building coffee breaks were held
throughout Huron County last week. Fifteen of 48 residents at the nursing home and
80,000 to 100,000 Ontarians have Alzheimer disease and related dementia, with that num-
ber expected to increase by 50 per cent over the next 10 years as the population continues
to age. Johns said she's glad to take up the cause. "This is my pet charity," she said. The
Villa offers the Thursday Day Away program for those who care for Alzheimer sufferers. For

Hockey school organized for Zurich skaters

ZURICH - The annual Huron
Country Farm Hiker Tour will he
held on October 5 from 12 noon to
5 p.m. beginning at the Ausahle-
Bayfield Conservation Authority at
Morrison Dam, cast of Exeter. •
Admission is a non-perishable
food item for the food hank.
Afterwards, tickets will he on sale
for country I,rarvest supper at the
Rec Centre in Exeter. For advance

Blue Water Rest Home adminis-
trator Joe Risi and wife Martha,
head nurse Barh Sheppard and hus-
band Doug, and Stewart Steckle,
chairman of the Board of Directors,
attended the annual OAHNSS
meeting and Cynvealion in Toronto
on September 22-23. The theme
was 'Key to the Future'.
Members of the Auxiliary who
attended were Dontia Klopp,
Marlene- Gingerich, . Gladys
Gingerich and Carmel Sweeney.
They todk part in the 35th provin-
cial Auxiliary anniversary.
The Zurich and Arca Figure
Skating Club put on a fashion show
on Thursday evening with a good
attendance. Several door prizes
were won the the winner of the
50/50 draw was Mrs. Mell Douglas
of Grand Bend, who won $73.50.
The community centre was deco-
rated for the theme "Fall into
Fashion '97"..
The next Ladies Auxiliary meet-
ing will he held October 7 at 7 p.m.

lected.
The ':Right to Lite"' will he hold-
ing their annual Life Chain demon-
stration in Stratford on October 5
from 2 to 3 p.m. along Ontario and
Huron Streets to protest against
abortion.
A bus trip is being planned,for a
,pilgrimage to the shrine of Our
Lady of Fatima in Youngstown,
N.Y. on October 13, Thanksgiving
Day. The bus leaves Stratford at
8:30 a..m. and cost $20 per scat. if

The last Chamber dinner meeting
was held at the Dominion Tavern
with 15 present from various busi-
nesses in the Zurich area. The two
exchange students staying at the
home of Lou and Delores Schilhc
were special guests.
The next meeting will be held on
October 21 at 7 p.m. at Erb's
Country Kitchen.

Wendy Bedard of Exeter.
A farewell party was held for
Doris Schoch on Thursday at the
home of Helen Geiger with several
friends attending. Schoch will he
moving to Windsor on Friday.
Melissa Francis of Orleans,
Ottawa, spent the past week with
her parents Mozart and Marie
Gelinas Sr. and relatives while
hosting a Weekender clothing
party. She also visited with daugh-
ter Kristian, who is a student at the
University in London. Husband
Neil and son Aaron spent a few
days and all returned home on
Sunday.
Jeanne Bedard, Windsor, and her
sister Marie Noury from
'Leamington, spent a few days this
week visiting at the home of daugh-
ter and niece, Carmel and Jerome
Sweeney. On Sunday evening, a
family get-together was held for
Jeanne Bedard whose birthday is
September 21 and for Beth
Sweeney whose birthday is
September 27. 'Mark Noury also
visited with a friend Blanche
Ducharmc, and Jeanne Bedard vis-
ited with Bedard relatives.
Sympathy goes to the family and
relatives of the late Anne Willert of
Blue Water Rcat Home who passed
away September 23.
Nell and Gladys Gingerich
recently spent two weeks visiting
with their daughter Mary -Ellen and
Neil Skinner in SherWood Park,

had been here for a two-week vaca-

CENTRALIA - On October 2,
Zion West and Centralia U.C.W.
will hold their meetings at 8 p.m.
All women of the church are wel-
come. Zion women are to ask a
friend to their meeting.
World Wide Communion will be
celebrated on October 5 at
Centralia and Zion West United
churches. On October 12 the
Sacrament of Baptism will be cele-
brated.
Centralia United Church will cel-
ebrate its 75th anniversary on
October 19 at 2 p.m. Guest speaker
will be Dr. James Guest. Guest
musicians will include the Brandon
and Brittain families, the Skinner.

will follow the service in the
church hall and everyone is invited.

KIPPEN - Kippen East W.I. held their September meeting at the home
of Rena Caldwell with Phyllis Parsons as co -hostess.
The roll call was answered by 11 members with a "Home Safety Tip".
Grace Drummond introduced the guest speaker Connie Kuc who spoke
on "Falls" in the home.
One in three people over age 65 experiences a fall and women are twice
as likely to fall as men.
Did you know that 70 per cent of falls happen in the home, mainly the
bathroom? Eight o'clock in the evening seems to be the most common
time to fall.
Put, away the scatter mats, make sure the bathtub has some type of hand
hold and non slip material in the bottom. Keep the stairways clear of clut-
ter and have handrails where needed for going up and downstairs.

The Club Huron, Doug Riehl and
staff have been taking some of the
residents on fishing trips on Lake
Huron on a chartered boat.
Jeff Westacott celebrated his
23rd birthday Friday with cake and
ice cream. His mother took him out
for supper. Rolland Rancourt cele-
brated his birthday on Sunday.
Several residents attended a Zion
West anniversary service on
Sunday.
Ken Roth was surprised Sunday
afternoon when his brother and his
wife from Wellesley arrived with
his sister and brother-in-law, whu
are in their late eighties. They
drove from Virginia, U.S.A. for the
visit.

The group went to Phyllis
Rennick's home following the din-
ner to conduct their meeting.Jenny
Kipfer presided over the meeting
and led in a hymn accompanied by
Marion Triebner on the organ.
Shirley Prouty led in prayer.
" The roll call was answered by the
eight members present with a Bible
verse on 'season'. Minutes of the
last meeting were given by Prouty
and Helen Kendrick gave the trea-
surer's report.
There wore seven letters read and
Phyllis Rennick read an article enti-
tled 'Simon Senior Says.'
11 was decided to send money to
the group's Home Missionary, for
her birthday; to a Brazil orphanage;
an Argentina orphanage;, the India
