Lucan tender policy challenged
A resident wants council to
choose a quote for sump pump
work that's not the lowest

LUCAN - Is cheaper better?
That's the question Lucan resident Ron Dickey
asked at last week's Lucan council meeting when he
brought up his concerns about mandatory sump
pump work babe done at his Harold Street hone.
Dickey solicited three quotes from contractors
and submitted all three to council though he needed
only two,'Council's policy. is: to award a tender to
the, lowest bidder that meets all their criteria for the
job.
But Dickey was concerned the work
outlined in Lucan's Duke Maintenance's_
winning $1,163.85 tender was not exact -
Council decided not to let Dickey resubmit the .
two higher quotes as councillor Rosemary. Gahling-.
er-Beaune suggested; but to•go with the lowest bid- -

Reymer said about Dickey submitting three quotes
including the lowest one he now doesn't want.
Reeve Rob . Brady said in a later interview that .. .
while it's important the homeowner is satisfied with
the sump pump installation, it's ultimately council's
decision on who does the work. -
"The program isn't for the benefit. of the home-
ownerbut for the benefit of the` whole village," Bra-
dy said. -

he was contacted by Duke Maintenance on what•the

passed a motion awarding the ten-
der for road reconstruction and
sewer installation in the police vil-
lage of Centralia to low bidder

The decision will be subject to
the approval of the road superinten-
