GRANTON - Several from Gran-
ton enjoyed the annual chicken bar-
becue at Vannek United Church,-.
west of Merton. on •Saturday eve-
ning. August 2nd.
Muriel Lewis and son Larry were_
guests at a barbecue at the home Of
Teresa Ainsworth and Shayne.
London. on Sunday.
At the Granton United Church on
August 3. Pastor Normalic Voakes
entitled her sermon "Time Out".
At St, Paul's Anglican Church.
Kirkton on August 3. Rev. Glenda
Meakin's message was about a
trusting and faithful relationship
with God being enough satisfy
one's needs. .
Granton United Church was
.filled with singing, stories and
games during the week of July 28
to August 1 as about 70 children
and leaders gathered each morning
.from 9 am until noon for Vacation
Bible School.
Six young people, who arc part
of the Ontario Street Summer.:.
Team from. Clinton, led the pro-
gram. This included bible stories,
crafts. games and music as well as
a mid-morning snack. Nine local
teenagers assisted with the activi-
ties and in supervising the children
as they moved from one centre to
the next. These were Bronwen Ha-
/Iewood. Veronica Bloom. Stepha-
nie Currah, Tara Westman, Sherry
Garrett. Curtis Vander Hyden.
Heather Westman, Natasha Or-
chard and Rebecca Harlton.
Snacks were prepared by Jill
Westman 'and Ruth Harlton and
April Bryan was the overseer for
the program'.
On Wednesday the children en-
joyed cooling off with a swim in
either Jirn and Lillus Riddell's or
Robert and Colleen Thorpe's pool.
The live -day program ended with
parents and friends being invited to
a closing program when the chil-
dren sang a sampling of the songs
they had learned and presented,
cards of thanks to the leaders.
The winner of the 50/50 Fun Day
draw was Stan Burnett. RR 2 Den-
field. -
Gcorge Crouch of Williamsburg,
Virginia and Mildred (Crouch) and
Mark Gorth of Sarnia called on
Jean Noon and other acquaintances
on Sunday.

Woodstock arc holidaying for a

to present pieces of Alligator Pie
BLYTH - -The Blyth Festival
Young Company. a group of 14 tab-
ented youths aged 11 to 18. is' busy
creating and rehearsing • Pieces of
.Alligator Pie. a production based
on the poems of Dennis Lee and
others.
"We arc really having fun with
this (production). it is truly a col-
laboratisc effort anti wc`rc coming
up with some beautiful material."
says Blyth Festival's Artistic Direc--
tor Janet Amos Who is directing the
Young Company' this year along
with Rachel Brophy and David Ar-
chambault. Kendra Fry is -the stage
manager and technical director.
Brophy. from Lucknow, as well as
Archambault and Fry, both from
Godcrich, are all former Young
Company -members who now have
professional theatre careers. Ar-
chambault and Fry were also part
of the Festival's Quiet in the Land
cast this season.
Cathy Nosaty, who was musical
director for the Festival's 1995 pro-
duction Ballad for a Rant Rwmer's
Daughter. is thc Young Company's
musical director. Pie features origi-
nal songs by the Company .and a
variety of instruments. everything
from flute. trumpet and accordion
to piano and guitars. The produc-
tion itself is as eclectic as thc mu-
sic, featuring fantasy, skits. poems.
songs. dances. stage fighting. acro-
batics and even fencing. Costume
design • is by Andjelija Djuric who
also designed the costumes for this
year's Festival production of Booze
Days in a Dry County. Thc youth
participating . in the show come
from Blyth, Clinton. Vanastra,
Goderich, Scaforth. Listowel and
Wingham.
Holiday visitors at Saintsbury - -
SAiNTSBURY - There was no
service at St. Patrick's August 2 as
the church was closed for holiday
time.
Calch and Corbin MacGillivray
were guests Monday last along
with several others from the "Circle
of Friends" group honoring Nick
White on his I 1 th birthday.
Several families in the communi-
ty held get togethers on the holiday
weekend.
Ron and Margaret Carroll enter-
tained their family on Sunday hon-
oring daughter Brenda who was
celebrating her birthday. Guests in-
cluded Terry, Matthew, Mitchell
and Michelle ircdale, Ian Carroll,
Deanne Pearson, Doris Mullins and
Ruth Ann Phillips.
Travis and Starr Davis have been
visiting with friends Hub and Mary
Tiled and family of Zurich this
week.
Suzanne Davis called on her
mother Dorothy Dietrich on Satur-
day.

celebrate Morning Prayer Service
at 10 a.m. Sunday August 10.
Harley Davis and Corbin Mac-
Gillivray were overnight visitors
with grandparents Hugh and Hazel
this week, Harley also was over-
night visitor with Shane Van Rom-
pae; Dashwood.
Micheal and Marylou Rumleski
called on grandmother Mary Davis
recently. -

HENSALL - Hensall residents
arc reminded of the requirements
for weekly green waste pickup.
Green waste includes grass clip-
pings. garden waste, trimmings,
and other yard waste. Green waste
must he in containers or cardboard
boxes; no bags will be accepted.
Branches and limbs must be no
longer than four feet long, and tied
with twine.
Bundles, boxes and containers
should not be more than 45 pounds.
Residents requiring green waste
pickup should contact the munici-
pal office, 262-2812, to arrange the
pickup.
