Sergei and Taniya are from the Chernobyl area in the former Soviet Union and have been staying with Joy and Norm Caserin of Grand Bend and Dianne and Murray Waun respectively as part of the. St. Marys Children of Chernobyl committee program. The program provides the youngsters. that. suffered through the Cher- nobyl nuclear accident and its fallout with nutritious food, free dental care; clothes .and 'oth- er items as well as lots of support from the community. Taniya and Sergei, as well as the 13 other children -from the .Chernobyl area hosted by area families, return to their home- lands on Aug. 11. /Fir sr a • c1ty Basic Tinfoil Meal for One Campfires and tinfoil meals! Now does that conjure up some memories for you. I remember many times preparing this simple meal and with pride placing it in the fire! 'As a family. we enjoy this meal over our BBQ or' on a grill over. a fire when we camp. Don't forget to double wrap to.avoid burning. The children also enjoyed playing with homemade -"tnagic Hind''; putting. on a magic shciw and visiting Parkside Restaurant for a tour and compli- mentary hotdogs. • • • - Bctwcen stories. songs and games. the children made pinwheels, string sculptures. hand puppets and other crafts: Last week's highlight was the discovery of an alien egg (watermelon) that was in the hush behind the arena. • - Zurich Playground will he holding a.yard sale next Saturday, August 9 to raise mbney for the program. An 87th birthday party was held at the home of Jim and Carol -Sweeney in London on August 2 in honor of his dad, Bernard Sweeney. It was also a family reunion. About 50 relatives came from Kitchener,. Zurich, western Canada, U.S.A., Dornoch, Oakville, London, Belleville and Kingsville. They en- joyed a luncheon, singing and reminiscing. . Lewis and Marlene Gingcrich•recently holidayed at a cottage in Kings- bridge at Birch Beach.
