Dear Editor - 'Thanks to the generosity of the resident )f the town of Exeter, and the townships of Usl orne, Siepincn and Hay, Exeter branch of the Ca- nailian Cancer Society raised $18,439.55 for the 1'')97residential campaign. This vital task was accomplished due to the efforts of 93 volunteers, who gave unselfishly of themselves for others. The Canadian Cancer Society is a national community based organ- ization ofvolunteers, with a mission of: the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. It is totally supported by public donations; programs receive no govern- ment aid. .. , Approximately 1/2 of the money raised is invested in research; 22 percent supports patient services such as. Information -Service (1-800- 263-6750), staffedby professionals and trained -volunteers; providing information to 20,000 volunteers, providing • information to 20,000 people each year. Eighteen per centis spent on the health prornotion of food choices, tobacco reduction, sunsense and breast health.' Locally, the -Exeter Branch, which meets the second Tuesday of each month, September to June at 7 p.m. ih the South Huron Hospital, (everyone welcome) offers such services as guest speaker's, patient' in- formation and transportation. The Living with Cancer support group invites any people living with cancer, their friends and families to:attend their meeting -held the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Trivia Anglican Church.
