ZURICH - The 133rd annual Zurich Fair will be held this weekend at the Zurich Community Centre and are- na. This year's theme is "Rural Challenge". • Activities begin Friday morning when exhibitors en- ter baking. sewing, crafts. flowers and vegetables to compete for the many prizes offered. There are also classes for elementary school age children and youth 10 to 15 years. Everyone in the community is invited to participate in this pan of the fair. Exhibits must be entered by 1 I a:m. for judging. Some new:ideas for displaying the ex- hibits,_are planned for this year's fair. The official opening of the fair is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday with Paul Steckle, M.P. Huron -Bruce officially opening the fair. A variety pro- gram of local entertainment .will follow. Fairgoers will be able; to view the many exhibits in the _Community Centre. At -9 p.m a dance will he held in the arena with the music supplied by "Mozart's Melo- dy Makers". On Saturday. various livestock competitions take'. place., including poultry., sheep, goats' -and horses. In the sheep show. owners of as many as eight different/ breeds of sheep compete for prizes. The Zurich .4-H Goat Club..under the leadership of •Joan VahSligten- horst, will hold its Achievement -Day at the fair.,Some Inn classes such as potato and watdrncelon races. flag and cloverleaf barrel races have been added is the local • 'amateur saddfc horse show: If you have a saddle horse. cisme:out and compete :foricash or merchandise prizes. There are classes for all ages. The horse shows begin, following the parade at 1 1:30 a.m. The parade will line up in the arta of the Zurich Puhlic'School. The Mini -Tractor Pedal Pull for children up to 100 lbs. will take place in the arena with registration begin= ning at -2:30 p.m. - • • "Babies on Parade" will be held in the Community Centre at 2 p.m. Gifts will be awarded to babies in classes up to one year old for various features such as best smile, etc. All entrants in "Babies on Parade" will receive prizes of merchandise donated by local mer- chants. Also there are 'the various fair exhibits that will Ibe on display including school children's works of art, crafts, posters. etc. There will be some concession booths displaying .and scl)ing various items. A *food booth operated by the Agricultural Society with. the assistance of many volunteers will operate. throughout the fair. Midway rides will also be available. 'The Sunday Horse Show has been changed .to an -Open Speed Show this year. Events jnclude polebend- ing! barrel; flag and keyhole races, etc. which begin at 11 a.m. Local businesses have Contributed prize money for this stlotiy. An Old Time'Fiddlers' Jamboree will be. held from 2 to 7 p.m. in the • air-conditioned Zurich Ctommunity Centre. Also, there will he a buffet supper from 5 to 7 p,m. • The Zurich.
